I have recently 'upgraded' from my old Curve 8900 to a Curve 9360.

Still a very good phone but it has the latest OS on it - and one really annoying backwards step in my opinion:

My old BB used to assume you were entering a phone number from the home screen so you got a large phone number appearing as you typed.

With the new OS on my new BB from the home screen it assumes you are searching text so when entering you get a small text string (ie. gobbledygook) when entering a phone number, with an even smaller phone number almost too small to read appearing underneath that.

Can't see a way of getting it to default to showing a number from the home screen so you can see what you are entering. Very annoying.

I have a Curve 8900 at present and have just been offered a Curve 9360 free from o2. It has OS7 on it and some other features I like so I will probably accept the offer.

I know BB battery life is known for being poor so recently installed the battery saver app thinking it would simply reduce the usage but instead it just prompts you to close things, reduce backlight etc to save on battery. I do prefer having the qwerty keypad which is why I chose to stick with BB rather than change to iphone, HTC, Samsung etc

I think I read that you can turn off the auto search function so perhaps this would prevent it typing out the letters from the corresponding number press?

well i will disagree with you, new BB phones are good with speed and functionality, the interface is almost the same, in-case of BB torch (slide) its a little annoying ... but new BB's ROCK check the new BB-BOLD !!

Thanks for trying to help Simon,

Unfortunately if you turn off 'universal search' in blackberry OS7 you cannot dial/enter anything from the homescreen so this doesn't fix the problem. I want a big telephone number to appear as I dial from the homescreen, like OS6 used to do !

I want to use my Blackberry as a phone and email machine primarily, not a multimedia/social networking/games machine !

Oh well. Worth a shot. Might be worth posting on the Crackberry forum for a possible solution if you haven't already tried there?
