Graphics & Link Building

A question for you SEO Gurus..

Will I penalised if I use CSS to absolute position a graphic over link text? I use this method for accessibility in my designs, but can't see why this couldn't work for link text.

I'd be surprised if you got penalised. It makes sense to do it for accessibility reasons. I'd only worry if you were keyword stuffing under images. Otherwise what you're doing is effectively what the alt attribute does for images.

If you are talking about doing something like having an image logo, headline etc and putting text behind it and doing something like putting a large text-indent on it, this is actually a good practice and won't have any negative effects.

Block level link analysis will pull just this sort of thing out. As already pointed out, do it properly and there will be no issues.
