Press release???

Hi there! Still trying to work out the kinks of the press release side of my media campaign. I have two or three written that I think will be newsworthy to the local press but can I send out the same release to all the local papers? What if more than one paper uses it? WOn't they bit a bit teed off that they have the same story? How to I get around this? :?
Any advice from more savvy business people will be welcome. :)

Hi Angel,

I've written for all of the local papers in my area at one time or another, and if the papers are truly local then they're used to getting the same press release as their competitors.

It all depends on the individual paper, obviously, but most journalists are aware that the press releases they recieve aren't unique and unless a story is a true exclusive, they won't be too worried about it.

Of course, if you can think of a different angle for all three, so much the better :)

The more the merrier!

I would only worry about several newspapers using your press release, once several newspapers have got back to you.

The most important things to think about for now are 1) is the press release news worthy - have you got a great story to tell? 2) is it targeted - are your 'audience' going to read it? and 3) What you'll do once the article has been presented... Have you thought about making a part of a 'promotional pack'?
