I use Mr. Site for my website - very effective, however, in the search engine optimisation tools - Mr. Site say that you should leave the setting to "7days" - which means that Google should visit your website only every 7days..

Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

Google will visit your site as often as G feels it is appropriate!

You can block google, and prevent them visiting. And you can change the rate at which URL are accessed. But, Google will tend to visit sites more often if the site is growing or content changes often.

You can indicate to google that you want the bot to come a visiting, but the decision of the bot to come or not is technically in the hands of google software :)

You can block google, and prevent them visiting. Not quite true. You can request G doesn't visit your site or doesn't go to various parts of your site. But, even though G has given guidelines, there are no guarantees G doesn't actually visit those areas anyway. It's a bit like putting a link on your site and saying "do not click" people will click it more. I believe G does follow links and directories you request not to be followed, but doesn't add them to the index.

Ultimately G can visit your site whenever it wishes, you can't block it completely.
