Hi

I am selling tickets for a singles night in various formats:

Fixed price (entry only)
Fixed Price (includes 1 drink on arrival)
Fixed Price (includes food only)

How do I calculate the VAT? on the full fixed price?

Obviously I pay in advance or at the end of the night for the food/drinks - this is my cost. But do calcualte VAt on the food/drink portion too?

Thanks

I presume that you are vat registered. A supply of food and drink in the course of 'catering' is standard rated. The food and drink will be consumed 'on premised', so they will be standard rated. Here is a link (http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageVAT_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000160&propertyType=document#P102_9289) to notice 709/1.

Does this apply even though technically I don't supply the food, the bar or restaurant does.

Technically you do supply the food. In terms of VAT transations, the bar or restuarant supplies the food to you, and you supply it to your customers.

As David said that yes you do supply food. You are selling a entrance ticket which do include food and drink hence you are selling them. On the same time, you will be able to claim vat you pay on the purchase of these tickets. (I presume that no other special schemes apply to you).

BTW What is ticket you are selling for? Is it speed dating or something?

I see your post on the other forums as well asking the same question.
