View Full Version : Setting up an online shop

Hi there

I am a web content editor by trade but know enough about HTML and CSS to have set up a few websites before. I would like to try my hand at an ecommerce site but have only ever done one before and that was through easystorecreator. It pretty much offers everything I need for the site I want to build but its fees seem a hell of a lot more than they used to be.

What I need:

- To build a basic site for a small business with an ecommerce element.

- The ability to hand over the completed site to my non-techie self employed friend who will update the content (not the structure or the design) herself including adding items for sale, and changing postage costs.

My questions are:

1) Is there anything out there similar to easystorecreator but cheaper that you can recommend? It needs to be something that allows someone with pretty much no technical knowledge can edit once the site is up and running.

2) Alternatively I was looking at using Wordpress or Joomla as a CMS with one of the free shopping cart options. However, they both appear to require me to download things. This shop is being created by me and then administered by someone else from a different computer. Will the administrator have to download Joomla / Wordpress to edit the content too?

3) I am probably going with Paypal to take payment. Will this work with anything you have recommended?

4) Is there anything obvious I have missed out?

Any suggestions / help gratefully received.
