Hi,
I am interested in getting interspire shopping cart but have been recommended to get it hosted out of the uk as servers for the uk have not been checked.
What I wanted to know was if the servers are based in the US would that affect google ranking as the servers will be based in US.
Also will customers looking it up be based in the US rather than UK.

This seems a little odd? What do the servers need to be checked for? Any server with PHP and MySQL can host Interspires shopping cart irrelevant of geographic location.
If you host in the states, you will:
- Have slower load speeds to your UK customers
- Support hours that are out of sync with your stores main operation times
- and you may (this is arguable!) see a negative effect in the search engines.
Personally I think if you trade in the UK, use a UK host irrelevant of which application you are hosting

I agree. The search ranking will be affected. Having a UK server location does make a big difference to the Google indexing algorithms.
I also do not see why it would any difference to any software. Try a different one?

Should work on any linux host and any windows host with ISAPI_ReWrite (http://www.helicontech.com/hosting)

Don't forget if you are hosting outside the UK / EU there are data protection issues.

It will definitely affect your ranking and you will notice a speed difference (slower).

Having a server in the US will include you in google US results, if your domain is a .co.uk then you will also appear in UK results. The speed can be an issue and you will have slower FTP speeds, which can be a pain when uploading larger files. If your domain is .co.uk then it WILL NOT effect your UK rankings in Google.

My ecommerce sites are hosted in the US, and I don't have a problems with speed, search engine rankings or customer service from my hosts.
Yes, it's great to buy British, but at the time I couldn't find the package I wanted in the UK.
And also bear in mind that because your hosting company is UK based, it doesn't always mean that the servers are.
