Being an experienced user of myob, I wanted to buy a copy for a client of mine in the construction industry who uses job-costing. However, I was told that in about 12 months myob is being withdrawn, and replaced by Mamut's own software. On invetigation, Mamut is considerably more expensive, and limited to only 1 client account, (5 on myob) so I don't wish to go down that route in the future.
Does anyone know of a good, competitively priced package that will easily handle job-costing?

Quickbooks is multicompany and you only pay £299 for their pro and 450 for their premier versions. You only need the premier if you want multicurrency.

Thank you,
I've not looked at either of those packages. I'll investigate them both.

I used MYOB until recently MOK but have moved away from it for the reasons you mention. I'm now using Quickbooks and Solar accounts both of which are great. Off the top of my head I don't think Solar has a job costing function but Quickbooks does.

KashFlow can handle hardcore job and project type stuff now that it's integrated with WorkflowMax (http://www.kashflow.co.uk/workflowmax.asp)

Amazon UK currently has QB Pro 2008 for £193.76, and QB Premier 2008 for only £302.76,

dp0848,
Are you sure Quickbooks do job costing? I've been on their site, and there's no mention of it in their blurb. I would have thought it would be a selling point.

I'll check with Jenni. She is our in-house QB expert.

I would get a package specificaly aimed at the construction industry. Job costing and client billing are very diffrent in the construction industry to normal business practices. Depending on their place in the chain they may well have to deal with interim applications, self billing and CIS.

Thank you, NCA.
The companies I work for are tiny, comparatively, and although they do get involved with CIS it's so small that it's easy to do manually. Interim applications aren't a problem either. The cost of a construction-industry-specific package would be prohibitive. I don't spend any more than two-three hours a week on each of two companies, so couldn't justify spending huge amounts on software.
I just want a simple off-the-shelf package with multi-company facility and job-costing for sales and purchase invoices. Something like myob :).
