Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help.
I have a Sony Vaio laptop (Model PCG-4F1M)
All was well with this little laptop until the touch pad was replaced (By an amatuer)
Now when you turn the laptop on the lights come on, it makes all the right noises, but the screen doesnt come on.
Can anyone recommend a good, cheap company that can will fix my baby Vaio?
Regards
Dominique

Try Comspec (http://www.comspeccomputers.co.uk/) (a member on here) Mark recently fixed my laptop and did a great job. :)

It sounds like the display connector has come adrift during the replacement of that touchpad, as the upper side of the keyboard casing would've been removed to replace the touchpad & somewhere in there is where the display connector lives.
If you're confident with a screwdriver, you could try finding it yourself, it's usually a small white amphenol connector with a black insulated cable going up into the display. Usually travels via the right side hinge & plugs onto the mainboard below there. Sounds like you cant make much more of a hash of it than the last person to take it to bits...
Failing that, let me know where you are based, we may be able to help you out.

Be careful with the display connector. The end which plugs into the main laptop itself is likely to be the one which has loosened, but the other end which attaches to the screen itself is a delicate connection and is not something you want to dislodge.
If you cannot find anyone locally, feel free to send it to us (should cost about a tenner via RM) and we will take a look.
The simplest way is to search Google for a Service Manual for your particular model, follow the steps to open it up, check the small ribbon-type cable is connected properly to the laptop, then reassemble it and try it out. If that does not work, then your tinkerer friend has damaged something whilst repairing it the last time.

Dominique,
Opening a laptop isn't really something that's (a) fun, or (b) worth the hassle. Just get it sent to Mark@Comspec and he'll be able to give you an honest professional fix.
