I did my own tax return on about 9th April 2008, I did not want to be worrying about it or how much to pay. It was brilliant ended up with a tax refund as overpaid tax because had part time job where I was paying basic rate tax. Also where I had been putting money aside for tax bill I knew I had been overestimating the amount and with the tax refund and the amount oversaved bought a laptop for my business and a weeks holiday in Wales.

Mine was the first return I has submitted online, so wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before offering the service to the public at large ... I suppose a sub question - do you use the HMRC software or external software?

31st Jan all the way. On principle - there is a deadline for a reason!

I used to hand-deliver it to the local tax office around 7pm on 31st Jan :).
Just because I could!!
