Hi,
I have quite a list of domains that I no longer require / have ever used. I have done a bit of research, and the general consensus is Sedo is the place to sell. I'm not wanting a lot or anything for them, maybe £40-£50 for each TOPS.
Does anyone have any experience in selling domain names or any tips?
The domains are things like:
energy-4-less.co.uk
greenandcool.co.uk
saveyourfuel.co.uk
etc...

I hope it's OK if I hijack this thread; CityScenes seems to have already got a lot of good answers.
I have a related question. I closed down a company I was running in December 2007 and had a placeholder on the old web site to say we were no longer trading. My business partner and I got email on Friday from someone (in the Czech Republic) saying that they wanted to buy our domain if it is for sale. We are perfectly willing to sell it but two issues arise:
1) How do we value it?
2) Escrow for the transaction.
sedo.com and escrow.com are the two that I've looked at for the escrow part and both have a minimum fee of $50 for a service involving non-US currency transfers and for Sedo, with fees of 3% of sale value, we would be looking at a domain sale of over $1,667 before we exceeded the minimum $50 charge so, unless anyone has any suggestions for cheaper escrow services, or a way to safely do this without Escrow, then I suspect $50 is the minimum fee there.
Do the escrow charges even matter? In a case where we have been approached to sell the domain then I don't think that it is unreasonable for us to require the buyer to pay the escrow charge as part of the transaction. Has anyone else been in the same situation and is this what you did?
So finally, how do we value the domain? I see that Sedo offer valuation services but I'm concerned that these would be more indicitave (if indeed they are indicitave at all) of the value of a domain that has been put up for sale by the seller and would not fully capture the fact that we have been approached to sell.
I suspect that for the value it'll just be a matter of arriving at it through negotiation with the potential buyer but I would at least like to have some idea of a starting point. I tried estibot.com and the value came up at $20 but it seems to be based on backlinks, pageranks, site traffic and MSN frequency and, since the domain has been attached to a dead company for over a year now, any valuation on those criteria will yield an almost worthless result. I also tried swiftappraisal.com and that came out at a value of "below $100".
I'm concerned also that if the buyer has run the domain through some of these free appraisal services then they will be starting the negotiation with a very low expectation of the sale price so any stories of domain sales where the strike price for the deal bore no relationship to these sort of online valuations would also be helpful. We're under no illusions that we're sitting on a fortune here but for the hassle involved, especially given that I'll need to split the proceeds with my ex business partner, it's just not really worth bothering unless we're talking at least a couple of hundred quid for the deal.
Has anyone been in this situation before and have any advice they could offer such as pointers to more appropriate valuation services, cheaper escrow facilities, anecdotal evidence about price raised for a virtually worthless domain in terms of page ranking, link count, etc, or just general advice on negotiating tactics?
