I am starting a new Internet TV channel, which will be mainly filmed live and transmitted live.
Though as i am running this out of my own pocket i wish to make something make for the running of this service.
I have come up with the following packages, do you think there are resonable and if any of you are interested please feel free to contact me on jodimyatt@evolutiondevelopments.org.uk for more info.
Commercials are sold in blocks of 30 seconds, 12 mins of commercials will be scheduled every hour i.e 11:57-00:03 then 00:27–00:33 and so on.
00:00 - 05:59 £100 a year or £10:00 per month
06:00 - 08:59 £150 a year or £15:00 per month
09:00 - 16:59 £200 a year or £20:00 per month
17:00 - 21:59 £300 a year or £30.00 per month
22:00 - 23:59 £100 a year or £10:00 per month
The commercial will be shown once a day for a year in the block you purchased.

Hi Jodi
An internet tv channel sounds very exciting in principle and of course you would need to finance its running from somewhere. The biggest problem you will face is that people will advertise on programmes based on ratings of proven numbers of viewers, this could make it difficult even though your rates are extremely low compared to comparable TV rates.
I wish you the best of luck in running your project

Hi Jodi - What's the channel about?
How are you advertising it?

Backing up what Alan has said. The rates do seem perfectly reasonable but do depend on the viewer figures, and the subject matter you will be showing as mentioned by Rob.
That said, an Internet TV channel does seem like something fun and exciting to be involved in.

Live? Wow. What happens when you need breaks? Could this be an opportunity for outside producers to make programme content for those times when you can't go live? Possibly a revenue stream somewhere in there...
We have a back catalogue, but would love to generate some new material for it for recorded sessions, if you decided to follow this course.

Basically the Channel is called EvoNow TV and will be run as a sub section of Evolution Developments.
Although it is really my personnel project as it is something I have always been interested in and the costs of a cable channel is massive and potential does not have the scope to reach as much views, as being broadcast live via the internet, its worldwide.
To cut down on initially we are enlisting the help of local media study students at local collages and Universities, forming a mutual beneficial relationship with both.
As regards to content it will be a wide range of content,
1. Music Program similar to that of MTV TRL where users select the songs via text or ringing in again to generate more income (text 25p, phone 50p a min)
2. News Program either once or two a day dependant on time contrasts and
Staffing, therefore to be decide nearer launch.
3. A late night love program offering advice and again offering phone in’s to generate more income.
4. Unique Sporting content, as all the major sports rights are signed up we are in talks with UK version of Ice Hockey and American football and possible lower league football.
5. As well as a wide range of the students own projects and possible work we are able to purchase once we start turning over a decent profit.
Basically in order to make this project a success I am aiming to sign up 50 advertisers at the bottom rate. Anything else at this stage will be a bonus.
Other advertising will be a launch party and currently am trying to get press releases in a number of mediums. As well a leaflet and flyer drops in nightclubs as it is aimed at 18-35 year olds.
If anyone has any advice on how to sign up the amount of advertisers or gain more exposure I would be grateful as this is not my forte.

Jodi
In terms of gaining exposure there are probably a couple of guys on here who may be able to help.
Initially you could try 10yetis, possibly contact him via a PM or his website has hi e mail address.
Good luck with the project, you deserve it.

On a techie level, what streaming platform are you planning on using to broadcast the media? I ask because I use Linux as my desktop operating system and if you only support windows applications you may have lost of viewer :(

Unforuntalty due to costs it is easier to broadcast and stream via windows media player, though i never thought of the linux option i will look into this now.
Thanks for the idea

Also let me know if you find a way to support Linux media players. I know that RealMedia works and I can play WindowsMedia files but never tried streaming WMV files.

Just thought I'd point out www.videolan.org for linux streaming, It's free software of course and highly configurable, though i've not had much experience running it for long periods time as you would require but it's pretty reliable in my experience.
Good luck

Dont envy you Jodi
Just looked at the site so far and there is a lot of work to go through.
Once you've got everything loaded i would take a final read through for typos(I've spotted a few already)
You must have a lot of energy to get this project off the ground(and plenty of sleepless nights)

Sleepless night is one way of putting it, living on a staple diet of coffee at the moment.
As will as the stress of covering the cost's, but its something I have a keen interest it and will carry it out as i beleive i can make a success of this medium.
Thanks i imagine there to be a few at the moment as i just putting things down as quick as possable then going back though it.
