Does anyone here run a family business? If so, I would really like to speak to you for an article I'm writing!
Please reply to this thread or email me on gdyer@siftmedia.co.uk.
Thanks!

Yes, we are a home based family business. My wife and I own the shares between us and we employ 150 staff.
No problem in having a chat if I can help you.
I've just sent you an e-mail too.

I used to work in the 'family business' but there came a time when I didn't have the freedom that I wanted and my Father and I almost came to blows every day, so we parted company.

me and my dad are partners in the family business, we do all the work ourselves - self storage, removals, property clearance & crate hire.

I have a family run business, my office is a converted bedroom, my husband looks after the books and is my chief packer, postie and general dogsbody !! I run Spottie Dottie on a part time basis and managed sales of £38k in our first year. Thinking of giving up the day job now.

Did anyone have Gina ring them yesterday?
She PM'd me to ask if I was free for a quick chat and wanted my number. I gave it to her (and said best time to call me was about 4pm) but heard nothing.
I put other stuff on hold (apart from a call from Telemax) so I could give Gina my full attention and found that I was sat there twiddling my thumbs waiting for a call that never materialised.

HI I am a sole trader who is just bringing his young (16) son into the business, to help him get a good sensible head on his shoulder so he can make his own way at some point and also as things are tight at present so there is not much work about out there for him.
he seems to have no aptitude no sense and we are sometimes at logger heads, but its got to be done.
We work from home at present

I wouldn't worry posting any more. Gina has never been back on since posting on the 22nd.
Like I said before she seems to say to people (at least me) that she would ring, but never did. I think this is rather poor from the firm that owns this forum.

Although Gina is not answering at the moment I'm developing a documentary for BBC3 about growing up and am looking for suitable families to take part. If you are interested then drop me a PM with you number and I'll give you a call. I'm basically looking for family businesses that are grooming their youngsters to take over or just work for the business.

A little late in spotting this. Gina called me and we had a 15 min chat only a few minutes after posting my first reply on this thread.
So I'm one Gina did speak to.

Hi everyone, please accept my sincere apologies for not replying to you all sooner. I had a huge response to this request both from UKBF and other sources and I had a trouble keeping on top of it all.
As I am new to this job it's taking me a little time to figure out how everything works, so please forgive me if I'm not on top of the game just yet.
I was in a bit of a hurry to get this one finished and it's actually complete now but I really appreciate all your replies and I'm sure we will be revisiting this topic again in future.
For those who are interested to see how it turned out, here is a link to the story on Business Zone:
