Hi all,

As you may or may not know I am a Personal Trainer and I have been trying to come up with some new ideas. I enjoy doing the one on one sessions but I think on the whole that people enjoy exercising with others rather than on their own. Its just more fun when there are a group of you as you tend to bounce of each other a bit more. Classes are ok but people come and go and maybe don't see the benefits they are looking for.

Boot camps are a big thing in the states and my thinking is that I would like to put together 6 week 'boot camp' style programmes, you would sign up for 3 or 5 sessions a week for 6 weeks. I would limit the number in the group to 5 or 6 I think as that is manageable for me to give everyone the best of my attention. I would incorporate nutrition into the programme as well as relaxation techniques.

So, over to you, what do you think of this sort of thing? is it something you would consider? if not why not? any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks Helen

Hi Helen,
My first impression of a 3-5 session a week boot camp sounds seriously intense and I cant imagine anyone having the time of 3-5 sessions a week. However, I'm basing this on my own person time constraints. I struggle keeping up with swimming once a week!

This does depend on your target market though. Perhaps your target market have more time on their hands?

Hi Helen,

Richard is not the norm. Most members of this forum will know that he works very hard and does a lot of hours. I am sure that there is a market for something along the lines that you mention. I try to exercise quite regularly which includes, circuit training once a week, badminton 1-2 times per week and I fit the gym in around this. Different people balance their lives differently. That is not a criticism of people that work a lot of hours or those that sit watching TV all night. It is simply the case that people do different things. You would need to target those that want an intensive get fit course, but this may need to be aimed at those that simply want to improve existing fitness, get back on track, or feel a course would be an extra boost to their schedules.
Mike.

January would be a good time for marketing that service too ;)

I agree, I think you may have to have several groups targeting different people and sessions timings - depending on how fit they are and how much time they have / whether they work daytimes etc.

But yes, I think you will find a market, its short enought to be OK, but long enough to get some results.

You could also do say a ski fit one, and a bikini fit one :-) for pre holidays

Good luck
