View Full Version : Abbey's Internet Banking: Not Very Good

If you used Abbey's old Internet Business Banking you'll know how easy it was once you were logged in to print off a statement.
I used to just log in, find the statement I needed (lets say Statement 10, or 26/11/2008), click View, then click Print.
I could print it to a PDF file or straight to my printer.
Then, when it came to reconciliation, it was really easy.
Now? Well now, what you get in your statement is the last 200 transactions. You are no longer given the option to select which statement number you want, nor are you given the option to print off between a range of dates.
So now, for me to grab a copy of December's statement online, I have to export 200 transactions to excel, and then go through it tooth and comb to find out where the transactions start (27/11/2008) and where they stop (26/12/2008).
I feel sorry for any one of you who has more than 200 transactions in a month! Thank god for Google Checkout processing payments only once a day, that's all I can say!

Since the 8th December when Abbey moved businesses over to their 'Personal' internet platform to do business bnking it's caused nothing but problems for us.
Did the managers at abbey not know that business banking systems require more than a vTech (a childs toy PC) computer to run their systems?:|
1) Forget 200 transactions a month - we do more than this per DAY and you can only view the last 200...no statements online, no date range selector, just the last 200 transacions - absolutely pathetic.
2) Transfers between business accounts come up as 'Transfer from Joe Bloggs' or whatever name you're logged in as..no it's not a transfer from Joe Bloggs, its a transfer from the company ! Something the taxman is bound to question!
3) BACS transfers - DONT BOTHER.... they get scheduled for 2 dates in future if it's to another abbey account, but straight away if to external banks. Then probably about 10% of them, even though they appear as paid and you get a receipt number disappear into a black hole. Don't appear on recent trans and dont appear as a pending BACS -where's it gone ?? Then spuriously BACS transfers get duplicated .... when you know you've definitely only paid someone once, it then leaves your account the following 5 days subsequently, you know you've not done something wrong and you end up with a very happy payee and lower bank account ! - want to check it ... well you can't cos you can only see the last 200 transactions which now only shows the last couple of hours if you do a lot of payments like us.
4) Errors Errors Errors - things just don't work as they should do, Abbey constantly say it will be sorted in 24 hrs - that was almost 2 months ago ! - you may be familiar with this one: Error, This service is currently unavailable.
5) Slooooooooooooooooooooooooow - I may start walking to the bank and queueing up, will be much quicker - oh but they don't do business banking over the counter cos their internet service is so good NOT.
The staff don't know what's going on and some say there's no imminent plans to change any of these issues...they've said the more that complain the more chance there is of things being corrected...blimey a muppet would even spot that the system is NO GOOD FOR GROWING BUSINESSES.
Rant Over ...We're now looking around at other banks - bye bye abbey .... we're taking our Big balance somewhere else .. you can keep your rubbish interest rates!
Abbey - you should get this fixed NOW or you'll go down the pan !

don't think the grass is any greener. we bank with barclays. they have this little pad thing you type in you number etc and its good to go. my daughter ate it. i was going to be charged £6 for a replacement! however they didn't order it. a week later i went into the branch and complained and they gave me one for free so all was made good in the end.
i phoned them to say i wanted to pay my hubbies barclaycard (while i was giving my toddler her lunch and had a windy baby on my knee) they wouldn't accept my call and put me through to an automated service which i couldn't do as i didn't know hubbies password. i did say ' please can you just take my payment? i'm looking after kids'etc etc etc
they claim they're an 'award winning team' thats a joke right?
anyway, they're all giant 'sausage machines' and anything that doesn't fit the system doesn't work. i think there's definetly a business opportunity for someone to set up a bank that actually does what they say they're going to do and actualy listens to their customers.

The banks all seem to be changing their web sites quite often, and generally not for the better. I think they get a security scare and then go off and do some updating at the same time.
There was a flash problem a few months back, and it effected every page on a domain if the domain had flash on it, so that prompted quite a few changes.
Personally I would prefer they offered an application to access accounts, rather than going through a browser, an open standard would be nice as well but that is probably expecting too much.

that's pretty unique.
I've had nothing but cool service from Barclays. The PIN Sentry works fine, they've answered my calls and sorted stuff out fairly promptly. I think they're pretty good.

You would say that just as I am about to open a Barclays business account wouldn't you :).

For the last 3 months we have had this message when trying to view last transaction. I would like to see just one let alone 200. Lost patience with them, not enough room here to say what we feel but trying the Ombusman now and leaving them for A&L but dont tell Abbey yet as we want to cause as much grief for them as they are doing to us.

It's not often I have anything good to say about HSBC, but their business internet banking is fantastic. I stay with them for that reason more than anything.

Barclays "International" business banking. Can save statement if I'm quick enough. The most you can go back is like a month and 2 days. On the 3rd day after it won't let you save the date range. No wonder all these banks are in the crapper. They have not got a clue what is needed to run a business.

Hubby has a personal account with Abbey and I really dislike their online banking. I find it complicated. I have a personal account with Halifax and love it, never had any trouble with it apart from when I kept trying to type in an out of date password, my own fault.
My business account for my old business used to be with HSBC, the only problem being the little gadget I had to find to get the code every time I logged in. Only because I am an idle bugger and am happy remembering log ins instead and it meant getting up and finding the gizmo in my bag. I was very happy with this account.
I am in the process of trying to decide who will get the business account for my new venture. For now I am quite happy using a separate cheque account at the Halifax as I do everything online anyway.

I have business banking with Abbey, and have had about 3 bounced cheques within a year (the only bank charges in my life!) due to finding the whole online banking thing complex to keep track of cleared balances. I have also phoned up a total of 6 times now for more stationary and am told it is on it's way, and nothing!!! The 6th time, the guy said he would go and do it himself when he finished out phonecall, if I still get nothing I will be raging!

Oh yes we have had problems with supply of cheque books. First time was 2 yrs ago when account first opened. We kept asking for them and spent the first couple of months trading without them, complained and finally got them along with compensation. Then late last year used on line facility request and again they never arrived. Complained and got them and compensated again!!! This is one of the many problems we have with Abbey. Also got compensated for a mess up with cards - dont want to bore you all with why. So they will owe us when they finally sort out the web problem. All this compensation would not be needed if provided a proper service - what a waste of money!

When I opened my bank account with Abbey, they accidentally sent the cheque-books, debit-cards, PIN numbers, etc. to the wrong house number!

There is a set procedure - you will get a letter after 4 weeks and then another after 8 weeks and then if not resolved - you go to the Ombudsman

I sent a BAC's payment on Tuesday. Didn't appear. Still not appeared Thursday. Phoned and asked. Guy couldn't see it. I said so it definitely hasn't gone, if it was pending you would be able to see it? He said yes, it definitely hasn't gone. Logged in Friday to do again, it had already debited that day. Idiots!
And yeah the statements and transaction histories are pathetic.
