hi, i've almost completely designed the website and just have a bit more to do.

Currently i have standard gmail and hotmail addresses, so i'm wondering, do i go for:-

1. a specialised email address for people to contact me on? (i.e SALES@MYCOMPANY.COM)

2. do i simply stick with standard gmail/hotmail?

If i go for 1st option, then where do i go to get it from?

thanks

go for the first option...but...you should have a control panel for your webmail from your hosting company.

you sign in and then you can add mailboxes to your hosting..i have up to 10 allowed on mine at the moment..only use 3 of them.

ohh well thats odd...so whats your web address is it something like yourwebsite.hostingcompany.co.uk <<< not like my website esk247.co.uk << which means i can put myname@esk247.co.uk and have as many as i like

yup its yourwebsite.hostingcompany.co.uk, but i'm sure that the hosting company allows you to alter/add to this, but don't know how. You see stugster on this forum is hosting it and he's a very busy person, although if he was around he's very helpful.

ah well thats whats happening...he operates the domain and he's letting out a piece of his webspace to you.

its like when i did a freewebs site yearssss ago...it was esk.freewebs.com but i could only have a webmail address as esk@freewebs.com and not my own website which i have now.

you may need to just ask stugster if you can switch to having your own hosting/domain after the name you want! e.g. yourname@yoursite.co.uk

i've done a deal with him...he's very nice chap and has been kindly trying to help him. But i can only push him so much as he's a very busy person. Its not important at the moment, but later i will require this.

thank u for your help.

Are you intending to sell something with this website?

Perception is everything.

sales@mycompany.co.uk looks proper and professional.

anotherbod96@hotmail.co.uk looks amateur.

You might need to register a domain to achieve this, but I don't believe that Stugster could not sort that for you. Perhaps not free but worth getting right.

thanks tiger. Yeah I'm gonna be selling some services. As i said stu is not around as he's got other responsibilities and its not fair to hassle him. However when he gets back, i'll have a word with him

Agreed that an address with a domain with at least a nuance of the wares that you're selling looks a lot better than a btinternet.co.uk or gmail.com address. It undermines the effort that they're making, and they're probably underestimating the power that a good website has to advertise.

To answer your question though, if you register a domain with internic (which a provider usually does), then you own that domain. For example, you have registered a domain name. Then anything at newdomainname dot com will arrive at your inbox, usually the postmaster's.

The hosting was set up for him to play around with his website idea. Once the company site was up and running I was going to get him moved over to a proper domain - so he didn't have to pay for domain/webhosting whilst he was just playing.

Once you've got your site sorted, let me know, and we can sort you out with a proper domain and hosting mate :)
