What do others use to prevent Spam-bots totally flooding their vBulletin forums with junk?
Got all the usual things in place, CAPTCHA, email address verification - the only one I'm holding off from is new sign-up's moderation/approval before posting as I really don't want to go down that route.
I know you're never going to totally reduce spam, but am looking for some sort of mod/add-on to try and stop the b*****ds as much as possible.
Open to any/all suggestions....
Thanks

I use SFM and are having the same problems. So ideas on how to combat this would be appreciated by me too.

Honestly, you're not going to be able to stop it..
You'll be able to drastically cut it with an active moderation team who can keep an eye 24/7, new account approval is the single best method to reduce spam attacks, but if you dont have the aforementioned 24/7 active mod team, it can obviosuly result in a delay for new memberships.. why may have a knock on effect on the signup conversion rate.
Another method I've seen implemented is to allow trusted users to 'vote someone a spammer' so that if more than say 3 trusted members vote a new user to be a spammer, that users account is suspended and their posts put in limbo until a Mod can intervene.
Good luck with it.

IP blocking helps as does span decimator but apart from that it's down to your mods team.
Do you require all posts from new members to be moderated before going public? It won't slow the spammers down a lot but it will keep your fourms clean.

No but it might be the best option then.
Does anyone have any experiences of any good mods to the sign-up procedure to again help? For example, when signing up having to answer a simple question "What's 2+2" etc.

Which version of vBulletin are you running?
You want this: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=183329&highlight=NoSpam!
Works brilliantly. You wont have issues after it goes on.
