Much comment about the spate of insolvencies and private sector layoffs around the country.
News just announced that the Land Registry office is to offer voluntary redundancy to 1000 staff, out of a total workforce of 8000.
8000 staff? Can anyone convince me that in this technological age, 8000 people are needed (or even 7000) to run this non-ministerial department?
Their simple remit is to register title to land in England and Wales and record dealings with registered land.
There are probably people on this forum who could run the entire department with a fraction of the labour cost. Moving 95% of their system online and doing away with many of their manual procedures would be a start.
