Hi,

Is anyone out there aware of any funding support available for business owners with disabilities? A client of mine has ME and dyslexia and has been trading as a self employed artist/sculptor for about 3 years. Due to the decline of public funding for the arts his business is now struggling to cope. He also struggles with business planning and tender proposals due to his conditions.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Many thanks.

There is a list of grant schemes for disabled entrepreneurs on the Business Link website (http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?type=RESOURCES&site=181&itemId=5001058725). You could also try the Disabled Entrepreneurs Network (http://www.disabled-entrepreneurs.net/) run by the Association of Disabled Professionals (http://www.adp.org.uk/).

I am not aware of any organisations that specifically support disabled people in business.

I believe that he can apply for help from the local authority for help with reading, writing etc however not entirely sure about that.

Where is he located?

Sounds to me he should put on an exhibition of his work possible sponsored by the council or local business. Art/Sculpture is fickle business a bit like an Author untill you get your name in lights you eat Bread and Jam .Good Luck to him though .
