HI..i was doing a project where i have to prepare a marketing report on how i can market undergraduate programs at a university...i just have to do a PEST an SWOT analysis on it ...Just thought would take some of your suggestions .... If you can can think of any points...related to any of the belwo mentioned factors and drop your suggestions here, it would be really nice.

P - Political Factors
E - Economic Factors
S - Social Factors
T - Technological Factors

S - Strengths
W - Weaknesses
O - Opportunities
T - Threats

Any suggestions on any innovative ideas which can help market a university better would also be really appreciated.

Thanks

You can fnd numerous resources on these frameworks (PEST and SWOT)
for example:

http://www.ponyal.net - here you can find good examples of PEST and SWOT analyses

http://www.nexwebsites.com/Members/cgi-bin/mbview.cgi?site=Student - Marketing forum for Students - a lot of information of PEST, SWOT and Porter's 5 forces

http://www.quickmba.com/strategy/pest/ - Detailed explanation of what PEST analysis is

I hope it helps!

My old PE teacher used to say (shortly before I stabbed him with a javelin);

"Second place is first loser"!

Joke...only kidding

Well done mate. A very good result all round.

If you ever have trouble coming up with a SWOT or PEST analysis, I reccomend using the following two articles, they helped me a bunch when I was just starting out, and they're still nice to reference to.

Good luck!!:)

No, you're more 'up to date'. Fahey's original PEST was 1980's I think - then it went to STEP, then STEEP, then PESTLE, now STEEPLE (the extra E is 'ethical).
Like SWOT - they are all completely useless unless you actually DO something with them. Mere descriptors get a few marks in exams but have precious little value in real life.

Tomorrow I am at HM Treasury showing them how to take the SWOT's they do every time they get something vaguely analytical and then showing them how to drive it on to making something happen.
Usually people generate 4 lists of words and then degenerate into random thinking, picking a few on whimsical criteria and asking 'what shall we do about them?'. This is not logical, nor strategic thinking - it is picking action points at random!

So ..... my question about PEST / SWOt and others - what are you DOING as output and action?
How did you derive that action? Was it 'random thinking' picked whimsically from your SWOT/PEST/STEEPLE list - or is there a process which highlights, prioritises, links and amplifies? If not - I suggest you've wasted your time producing 4 lists!

Hi
This will help to prepare your marketing report. Try to use a FREE SWOT Analysis Generator (for any company). All you need to do is to follow few steps:
- input a company name and its industry of operations
- choose from the extensive list of available strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (and/or input your own).
You will get answers to all factors mentioned above as the SWOT analysis comes with an introduction, references and explanation of each point you have chosen.

Good luck!
Rachel

But less of a loser than being a PE teacher...

Steve

PS When I was at school, a classmate of mine once asked the Head of Chemistry why he chose to become a teacher.

He replied, "Because I didn't get as good a degree as I hoped".
