FREE WEB HOSTING. It is very useful for your business or personal. What do you think?

I think anyone who uses free hosting for a business is completely barking...

In this context free could either mean 'has no value' or 'paid for by other means', eg advertising.

Neither are desirable for business or personal use.

Web hosting is such a small expense, it's not really worth the worry of trying to find a free provider. Especially in the grand scheme of business things - electricity, heating, premises, vat, marketing, stationery, employees, NIC, etc.

Why anyone would try and get free hosting is just beyond me :)

Because it's free ;)

I'd suggest we're perhaps feeding a spammer here.

Or maybe it's just that English (and/or complete sentences) aren't Smile71's method-of-choice.

Not at all. You're going to almost certainly be paying something, maybe not pounds sterling, but you'll pay for it some other way.

- Cheap adverts cropping up on your business site distracting your potential clients;
- Slow connectivity resulting in the loss of clients;
- Catastrophic failure of your site when the "free" service fails or disappears.

"Free" hosting is almost certainly going to lead to you having serious expenses elsewhere in your business model.

Probably but it does give us web hosts a blinding opportunity to wax lyrical about what a bad idea it is :)

Theres a reason I run a dedicated server, and that reason is not for the fun of it or the enjoyment of paying the bills!

Free webhosting is the bee's knee's its brilliant, recommend it to all of your competitors.

Then sit back and reap the benefits of your nice fast paid for hosting, whilst their customers scream in frustration at the slowness of your competitors site, and its frequent downtime.

im not sure what the aversion is to free hosting. most of you will take up free offers of other services so why not hosting? if you sell web hosting you are bound to be biased I know, but for the small oe new trader to dabble, I cant see what the big issue is.

I mean, I see free domains, free domain transfer (with a view to future payments of course, not least, a way of getting hosting payments out of you), free seo reviews, free marketing reivews, free this free that. Does this mean this product is cheap and nasty then?

I know generally you get what you pay for but some are used as loss leaders, and ways of creating an upsell.

I would love to hear from any company that really is a company that uses all this free stuff to run their successful business. Are there any here? Would you dare to tell even if you are?

Let's face it. Here on UKBF you get:

Free hosting.
Free web design
Free graphic design
Free marketing
Free business mentoring
Free delivery
Free legal advice

The list of free stuff here is almost endless. Whay the hell does anyone bother paying for anything.

A lot of free stuff is used by a lot of companies, things like php, mysql, apache, google analytics, oscommerce, linux etc are in very common use by companies large and small.

Free hosting though tends to be cr*p.

I cant recall ever seeing or hearing of a excellent quality free host.

The only exception to the rule would be where a good host offers free hosting to select people, such as charities or other worthy causes.

There's also a big difference between a product and a service :)
