Hello
I want to buy some stuff for my new iPhone (which I love and am totally obsessed with!) but all the adverts on eBay look really dodgy or come from Hong Kong?!?!
Does anyone on here sell this type of stuff? I don't mind using eBay to make a purchase but would rather know who I'm buying from.
Thanks
Esther

And what makes you think any sellers on this forum are not dodgy?

Use the feedback on ebay to determine who has a good reputation, go for someone with no dodgy negatives in recent history. (Although with the volume some people sell, negs are part of life as there are too many stupid buyers out there.)
Pay with paypal.

Alternatively I can recommend www.mobilefun.co.uk.

Perhaps you'd care to explain why they look dodgy?
Have to say it annoys me when people automatically jump to conclusions just because something is listed on eBay.

You do have to be carefull with the quality of some stuff from Hong Kong but most of it is fine and many of the sellers are based in the UK and drop ship the orders.

i don't use ebay at all..for anything...but thats only from having friends that have been ripped off from buying on their and from selling some products on the bay that ended up going for peanuts and then i still got negative feedback for some reason..cancelled my account and gave up..prefer to deal with people direct, business to business.

Sorry to hear that, shame you didn't think to start the item at the minimum price you wanted, or at least put a reserve on it.

Why not sell items "Buy It Now" ? No good complaining an auction doesn't reach what you think it should, as with all auctions on and off line it's pot luck as to how many want it and who's around at the time. In fact Buy It Now's are dirt cheap to list for 30 days now with full searchability as well.
But then what do I know I've only sold 15,000 items in 8 years on ebay.

don't think buy it now was a big option..i am talking 3/4/5 years ago or however long it was.
i thought it was ebay...as in...auction site!..so i auctioned some things and realised that it went for peanuts. obviously there is a reserve and buy it now options..however...i still prefer to inspect things before i buy them and ebay does have a lot of trash on there, tshirts with stains down the front and things!
i just don't see the fascination myself...its so much of a headache if something goes wrong when you purchase something, so difficult to get your money back, too much hard work over some fluffy dice for the cortina.

When you say 'dodgy' do you mean their listings don't look professional? You can check feedback on each seller - which is a lot more than you can do for independent website retailers.
Buying from Hong Kong is hit and miss. If the item is cheap enough it's probably worth the gamble of it going missing or not working but I've found many UK sellers selling for less then HK prices.

Exactly, ebay nowadays is a completely different beast, many law abiding long running businesses work in whole or part selling on ebay, myself included.
..and no eBay is not an Auction site, it's a market place.

It's all things to all people and continues to be one of the best ways of selling on the net. Sorry, but your description is so stereotyped and wrong and it's not one I recognise, now anymore. Sure there's all sort of different sellers and markets, take your pick, business sellers turning over thousands a week, selling brand new stuff and complying with all the laws of land right down to mr average clearing out junk from their garage.

i guess i'm just not to be converted. i'm forever seeing on forums 'damn ebay scammers grr' and 'ebay account frozen' etc etc. i have enough trouble dealing with the websites and customers losing emails...i can't be doing with weeding out scammers and then waiting for a box to be delivered from some person i've never spoken to before and all i have is an ebay id.
there just doesn't seem to be enough screening. apart from the feedback...but even then..what a nightmare, you search for something, find it, then you have to check the feedback to assertain whether its worth parting with your hard earned cash.
i think its because i cant be bothered :p that probably sums up my entire rant. i'm ebay lazy.

Ebay is massive so you will obviously get plenty of criticism on forums too. However, much of it is people repeating hearsay.

As long as your street smart and sensible, buying and selling on ebay is as safe as buying and selling anywhere else. I'd go even far as to say that if your a buyer, and using paypal, it's THE safest place to buy from the net.

I have been working ebay for approx 5 yrs. Alot of the time people just do not know how to sell or buy, works both ways really. There are alot of genuine sellers it is just an easy way to get selling online with out trying to get traffic to your 'website'. (if that makes sense).
We have three sites we use and feedback is extremely good.
Like on a previous post, ebay has come along way, you can view feedback (same as amazon), so you know who you are dealing with. When using it to buy always use paypal when possible this safeguards your money. If the seller doesn't send, you can get your money back. Sellers have a time limit to send etc.. Also the same rules apply if you recieve something you find is not accurately described, even if it arrives broken!!
Basically always view the feedback and NEVER send money to a seller without buying off the ebay site (using the buy it now) then you would be asking for trouble. But that applies anywhere.
(my uncle is a painter and decorator and he just been stiffed for £1500, so doesn't just happen on the web!!);)

Because I'm a trusting soul and you all seem like lovely people ;)
I'm not having a go a people who sell on eBay just that when an iPhone case is being advertised at 99p (Buy it now price) it can't be great quality in my opinion!
In recent months I've bought a few things on Ebay and been disappointed by them when they've arrived so I thought I'd try a different tactic.
Of course I could just buy from the Apple store but then that would be no fun would it! :D
