I have recently started to create a basic tour company in adobe CS4. I arrived at the stage where I needed to add a basket/cart. Being slightly nieve I typed in every variable of 'e-commerce cart basket review' into google. 10 hours later I've had enough! To me, reviews should be unbiased, based on experiences. However, with all the review sites I visited I always felt that the 'recommended product' was always based on an 'affiliate link'. In the end I did not know who to trust!

Finally, hands weary, I ended up here, and 'WOW' I have finally found my haven. Excellent, excellent forum.

As I said previously, I have looked at numerous cart solutions. I started with the 'adobe extensions' website where 'ecart' and 'storefront' was recommended. I then tried to evaluate many commercial and os solutions.

This is what I would like from my cart/basket.

1. The ability to be compatible with a good webhost. I have not chosen one yet but I was looking at 'memset' as it was recommended by pcpro.

2. I like amazon shopping basket. For several reasons.

2.1 It has a clear 'add to basket symbol'
2.2 After you add something to the 'shopping basket' the basket contents remain visible. There is also an edit shopping basket, so people can remove items at will before purchase.
2.3 'People who purchased this also purchased this.' As I have such a small product inventory, I may be able to list all my tours on a single page.

3. I have a very small product inventory, about 10 tours, I do not require P&P etc. However, each tour has about four or five points of interest. I would like to be able to put links to each of these points when a tour is purchased. (For instance, during tour A you can see 1,2,3 and 4)

4. The most crucial component of the basket/cart is the ability to choose TOUR DATES. Certain tours will only be available on certain days. I have thought about this at length. I have investigated YUI yahoo and jquery calendars. However, I would need these to integrate with the cart software.

5. The ability to add codes and discounts would be important. (Especially, if people purchased some/all of the tours.)

6. I also have a limited knowledge of coding, so I would like something relatively easy to implement.

7. Finally, I would like to sell internationally. Thus, multiple currencies, would be helpful.

Any advice you have would be invaluable. Thank you very much in advance.

Gareth

I'm sorry I can't seem to edit so I will have to post again. I would also like to attract customers from around the world. Europe, America, Australia. Would I require a server in each country to keep my site fast to access?

sorry, do you want bespoke quotes?

or do you want recommendations for a script that can do all of the above?

There is an obvious wealth of talent on this forum, and yes later, I may start asking for quotes. However, I first need to define what I need, and to do that I need to spend some time reading the forum, asking questions, and learning.

I'm not totally sure what you are looking for from your post, but if you are after foundation business knowledge then a great place to start is your local business link (http://www.businesslink.gov.uk).

If you want to create your own website with all of those features then I'd recommend adapting an open source Ecommerce package like osCommerce which has a community of developers who could create any missing pieces of functionality for you at a nominal cost.

Is there a particular OS forum? With a list of developers? (Sorry, stupid question, but I don't know how wo delete my post)

A good place to start is the oscommerce website, http://www.oscommerce.com/community.
