Hi,

I have been quoted £575 by Thomson Local for Google Adwords. Is this a good price and does anybody have any experience of dealing with Thomson? Good or bad?

Thanks for any advice and festive greetings to everyone.

£575 for what on google adwords?

How many clicks are they telling you you will get and what type of business are you?

Put your money away and invest in some PPC there are many people on here who could offer a much better deal.

And really who uses Thomson anymore?

I dont cause i always get confused with the spelling:eek:

It's for unlimited keywords. They say it will help when potential customers search for alloy wheels and other similar products in Google and other search engines.

Unlimited clicks....:eek::eek:

Tell them to go and whistle.
There is no such thing at all....especially at that price.

What they will do is set your ads to run at certain times of day and set a daily budget of say £2.00 and get you say 9 clicks a day or so.
And with a very poor budget as well so you display 15th or so.

Believe me there is no way they can give you unlimited clicks..

Ask them to put unlimited clicks in writing in the post they will run a mile.

I asked them if it was pay Per Click and they said no. They say it's all based on search engine keyword searches.

I tried Thompsons and paid them hundreds of pounds and got a hand full of clicks.

I think what they are offering here is a paid ad in their directory and they are saying they advertise on Google Adwords so you may get a few clicks from it.

I have tested out many directories and other forms of advertising but I have found the most cost effective is to run my own Google Ads campaign.

Spend the £575 on proper SEO, and then what you get is permanent (ish!)
Where as after your year is up with Thompson/touch/yell you are straight back to having Zilch presence again.

If you really need an immediate high ranking, then top this up with your own google adwords campaign. At least this way you determine how much to spend, and how often to spend it.

Yes I agree with Boxby. Concentrate on SEO and use Adwords if you need a quick fix.

Someone once said that SEO is like a wife and PPC is like a paid escort. One is a long term commitment building strength over time and requiring nurturing and support, less flexible but arguably more secure.
The other will do what you want, when you want, how you want, but will leave when your wallet is empty.

Good analogy, I like it! :D

They do a package which includes a listing in their directory site plus Google adWords and distribution across their own search network. It sounds like this was their PPC offering though. As well Google you also get onto their network. If you're a newbie you might find it useful as you get support from one of their account managers and you can learn a few tricks from them as well as saving a bunch of time.

It's not unlimited clicks - it's unlimited keywords by the way.

Not an expert on SEO or PPC, however, wouldn't touch Thompson with a bargepole for anything as had our fingers burnt in the past!
