Hi guys,
I'm looking to add a shopping cart to my printing company where a customer can select a print run e.g 5000 colour flyers and when they checkout attach there artwork in PDF format.
Basically the PDF comes with the payment, we then print and return by post/courier.
I have some experience in web design, so i'm looking to set this up myself (small budget to get started). I was thinking of using Google checkout as the payment processor.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would also suggest to go for Paypal and Protex. Multiple payment gateways will help you a lot.
You can also have a look at OSCommerce and other open source shopping carts which are very easy to setup.

Anyone know the technology behind it? What shopping cart software to use etc?

This does not fall in to the "simple development" arena. Call a web developer, get them on board to help with any areas that may cause realy problems. Look for PHP/ASp ( I prefer ASP but that is simpy because its my chosen poison for developing). Create the site yourself but call for the devloper's help when things get tough. This way you minimise development time and expense, but get running as quickly as possible

In this case I would prefer to go with OS Commerce.
Once the check out process is over you can redirect the customer to the admin area from where he can upload the pdf files for the work.
Well I would suggest you to also have a the facility to add comments or online chat feature on your website as while uploading the pdf the clients might want to discuss some issues with regards to the work.
I hope this helps.

For contractual reasons, I cannot work with printing companies directly but if you take a look at www.senseresellers.com the eCommerce system behind it is developed on top of www.openmindcommerce.co.uk
The Sense system includes artwork upload and tracking plus you may even expand your product range by selling their products along side yours...

I think there is a mod that will allow cubecart to do this. I definatly know the mod does image uploads. :)
