Hi,

We have just added PayPal to our payment options, partly because customers have asked for this and partly as a back up incase WorldPay go down like they did last year.

Could anyone PM me with any easy ways to spot fraudulent orders going through via PayPal?

Does anyone have experience of PayPal payment problems I should watch out for?

Seems like you were right to add Paypal - just got an email from Worldpay to say they've suffered another DoS attack.

It is not a moment too soon, but we ae not getting massses of orders through it. I think we need to shut down WorldPay and direct them to PalPal until the flack is over.

We lost a few orders over the weekend, but not a massive amount. I've put up a notice on the checkout page so I'm getting more people calling their order through and I've been able to get through to Worldpay most of the time so that's helping.

Have you considered adding Nochex as an alternative?

With respect Gary if we started taking phone orders we would be snowed under. Halloween has kicked in big time and we would expect to be doing one of our biggest numbers of orders this half ofthe year today.

We lost 5 hours on Saturday and it's been intermittent ever since. Orders are coming through part completed and frankly its a mess.

We did look at no chex but why use them when you can get World Pay to meet their rates? Why, that is, until you get a weekend like this.

Hi Caroline

I wasn't suggesting you take phone orders - it's different for me as some of the orders are specialised (for example weddings) so phone orders are quite common.

I was thinking of Nochex as an addition to Worldpay, rather than replacing them. They don't take international payments yet as far as I know so they couldn't be a replacement.

That's the problem with having to rely on 3rd parties - so much can go wrong and you have little control over it.

If suspicious I always email the buyer and ask them to confirm their details as well as asking something like the address of the bank or something. If they don’t respond then it’s almost certain that it’s a fraudulent transaction.

If the order is from America you could try and verify that the buyer is who they say they are by using the ‘White Pages’.
