View Full Version : Edirectory - how's it going??

I've started a new thread for this question as I didn;t realise how old the old one was.

I've just had a phone call from edirectory.

I never got to the point of finding out how much it was going to cost as I refuse to pay a set up fee plus commission. My view is if it is so good then the commission should pay you enough to run the business.

Anyway back to my original question.

For all those out there who are on edirectory (or one of it's offspring) how are your Christmas sales through it? Have you seen any increase in sales through this channel? Or is it still as bad as everyone has made out?

I wouldn't bother mate, i'm sure merchants are probably seeing 1 or 2 sales during this peak time compared to there usual 1 in a blue moon but unless you can afford and are willing to waste around £1000 then don't do it. It would be better spent with adwords. I was stupid and they made the mistake of promising me at least 20 orders a day, i got 1 in 2 months, i did manage to get a refund via Visa.

I've got no intention of advertising with them. If they had a set up fee with no commission or a small set up fee with commission, then I'd think about it.

But I know many people on here do advertise with them and I was wondering how they were getting on at this, the busiest time of the year for online retail.

It got a little better and I mean a little, but still not worth the setup fees IMO

We were contacted by them a while ago and didn't sign up for the same reason, if they can't live off the commision alone then it can't be that good.

A friend of mine did sign up with disasterous results, I think they had about 3 sales in 12 months and it cost them £500 to set up! !

My advice would be stay well clear!

They really are charlatans - surely there must be some comeback on promising things and not delivering..

its not just their fees but also all the hassle of getting your products onto their system

Intead - I thoroughly recommend checking out Amazon Seller Central...

I do a lot of work with this and for some clients it represents a large proportion of their total online turnover

if you need any help integrating with Seller Central I am your man ;)

Do you use AMTU for seller Central or just build your own API/SOAP Interface?

Our advice to shop owners using our service is to avoid portals that require a chunky set-up fee as well as a slice of sales commission. Like you said Steve, if their portal was in any way affective they would not need to charge up front fees.

Avoid Edirectory unless you have deep pockets and can afford a very high cost per customer.

We were contacted by another site that works in the same way as edirectory but was much more in tune with the kind of products we sell. I might name them later.

They wanted £500 set up fee

AND

22% cut of the sale price

I assumed this was the usual negotiating start point but it wasn't, they wouldn't budge.

As you can imagine I bit their hand off
(Thats sarcasm btw)

edirectory = 4 sales so far this Christmas for a toy shop!

Don't bother.

Me too. I got stung for £600 for 50 products 3 months ago. Not a single sale yet.
They are scammers!

it does sound really good on the phone but when you think about it you can't really win

They want a whopping fee upfront & then a big % of each sale
Looking at that sort of cost you could do alot with a current or new site.
On some of the itmes we sell we only make 25 to 30%.

If your still unsure spend an hour email current firms already with them & ask how they are doing?

Ive never heard of anyone doing well with edirectory
