I mean powerpoint presentations loaded onto a DVD and then the tv screen continually plays the DVD advertising businesses and services to the vehicles occupants..

would it be a viable means of advertising & do you think businesses would go for it? I dont see any reason why the bus company wouldn't want it as it would be an additional source of income

I have seen this somewhere before, can't think if it was on a bus or train though...

Not a bad idea, dependant on the route maybe for bus's.

They use this in Asia to great effect...the monitors broadcast a mixture of local news, adverts and sport all over the cities. Users have the option of turning the sound on via their mobile devices. Works very well over there.

Loads of London buses have it. They show nothing but ads and E! news.

I knew I'd seen it before.
Perhaps it was Lothian buses trialing it for a day? Afterall they already have the system in place to be able to show video adverts on the top deck of most of their buses!

Chris, there is a supplier of taxi tv and dvd equipment in Edinburgh - Tapinto, they have interactive touchscreens and bluetooth downloads from the TV to mobile phones!
The company - Cabtivate went out of business in 2006.
There is a taxi advertising company in London called cabvision
There is a taxi advertising company in Liverpool called Echo TV - part of the Express Newspapers group.
There is also a taxi advertising company in Peterbourough - don't know their name though.
Hope this helps...............

looks like I missed the boat then...
although all the businesses already doing this seem to be in large Cities - I'm over in Belfast and there dosn't appear to be anything of the sort here...
Thanks for the input - Chris!

In china they have a version whereby the screen is actually a game and there are sensors in the urinal so you control the character/car on the screen depending on where you hit :D

I don't think Belfast can be considered a small City? In terms of demograpghics doesn't Belfast provide the largest demographic in N. Ireland in the same way Dublin does in Ireland?
Don't think you've missed the boat though, didn't you check out Tapinto? The company that supplies the equipment - it sounds like they might have what you need?
Good luck anyway..........

Hi,
I would go for it; if you can better this existing service, do it. I don't think you've missed the boat either. Just remember to include small businesses in your pricing ;)
You may have an advantage starting within small towns etc... as these locations are often forgotten; yet they are many successfull folk about.
Kind Regards,

Hi Chris,
If you are serious about installing advertising screens in Belfast taxis then I can definately help you.
My company Tapinto Limited supplies systems for taxis which can be as basic as a manually updated 7" screen with integrated DVD, mounted within the headrest. Or as advanced as an interactive 8" touch screen which is remotely updateable (using 3G) and controlled from your office or as a hosted service by Tapinto.
We also have a taxi digital media player which includes a CCTV system. These systems cost from around £300 up to £1,050 each, depending on volume there are manufactoring discounts available up to around 25%. Within this price you can choose to have included bluetooth transfers from the system to a passengers mobile phone, or location sensitive adverts appearing as taxis pass pre-determined sites around town etc.
We have agreements already in place to supply content to networked systems with local, national and international news, weather and sport.
We can supply the hardware, software, network management, support, installations, advertising telesales (commission only) and finance to lease the equipment (if required).
So if you are serious about this business and opportunity you can contact me direct on 0131 477 8561. I can tell you that there has been no exclusive license issued for belfast although we have issued a license for Dublin. So you have certainly not missed the boat.
Visit our website and get all the info you need. Just google tapinto...
All the best,
Mark

Def a great idea - get it down here in Bristol. I have a few clients that could use it.
With the price of LCD screens at the mo it shouldn't be expensive.

Nice idea. I think I remember seeing something like it on Dragons Den a while back.

Thanks for you comments guys. As for introducing it to Bristol, We don't introduce or sell the advertising space for ourselves - we supply companies and individuals who aspire to own their own advertising network with the hardware and software to do so.
Merry Christmas to you all and good luch for 2009........

Mark

Not sure I think its a good idea.?
A few people viewing an add inside a bus ,does not seem to compare with many thousands viewing an add on the ourside of a bus,or better still a wrapped vehicle.?
would be interested in the price as we can wrap a vehicle for £600 which lasts for 5 years.

Look at this company, they place units in newsagents, with the emphasis on local businesses, they might be worth a contact.
