Post subject: How fire up your link popularity

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I first started out in Internet marketing, reciprocal linking was one of the techniques that I was required to master.

Left, right and center gurus were telling me of the importance of having my website link on as much websites as possible. But most did not say how to go about doing it.

After contacting several webmasters with the aim of exchanging links, all flatly refused. Maybe it was because I was on a free host or maybe I was still green in the business.

I tried several different ways but they all had the same result. Nada. Zilch. No links coming my way. Then I found it. The best linking strategy.

It was so simple I could not believe it. And it was right there under my nose. Many successful marketers were using it and accomplishing much. What was that secret weapon ? Article writing.

Writing articles and submitting them to article banks, directories and content sites will increase your link popularity. And it is all for free.

All you have to do is write an informative article which contains valuable information for your target audience. After editing, proofreading and formatting you can now submit it for the world to see.

You can go to most search engines and type in “submit your -------- article” and you will find thousands if not millions of places to submit to. Choose those that suit your topic the best.

Over a period of time, your work will start appearing on websites and ezines (Electronic newsletters) online. After reading your article, your prospect may visit your website if they are interested.

After doing this for some time, you will notice the difference. Your articles will start appearing on websites with your link in the resource box. And soon your link popularity goes up which in turn boosts your search engine rankings.

Writing articles is the ultimate linking strategy.Start doing it today and you may soon find your link on hundreds of websites.

To your success and mine....... ,

Looks good. All you need to do is write some articles and fire them off to all the ezine directories.

In essence, the idea of writing articles for link popularity is probably not a bad one, but I don't agree with the way in which Nicholas Dixon goes about it. He regularly visits our business forums, posts his latest article and then tottles off (no doubt to go and do the same on countless other forums). He rarely engages in any discussion with the other forum users and so his posts come across as little more than spam. If Nicholas was really successful with his methodology, I think that by now he would probably have invested in his own domain name and scrapped using Geocities... just my 2 cents.

I attended a business course and had a marketing guy as a tutor. He believed that all you should ever do is write articles and should never really pay much for advertising. He's helped people get onto the telly because news guys are interested in their story. Free publicity or what!

Posting articles certainly does help rankings. As part of my newsletter I have an Article of the Week which is posted on the site for one week and then goes into the 'Library' where it stays. These articles are sent in by authors from all over the place, so these people definitely see the advantages.

Writing articles is not that hard. Everyone has a series of articles in them. You all have experience in your line of business which others wish to tap into - put your tips and best practices down on paper.

One problem I find is that there don't seem to be many UK authors out there. I'm a UK site and so want to feature UK entrepreneurs - so put pen to paper ... and it will help your rankings!

I have written guides which pertain to various areas of my site and they have been extremely successful although I have not submited them to ezine places.

I always write them to make them as useful as possible and of course they are stuffed with keywords.

Their relevancy and usefulness creates inward links because they are valuable to others. It's that simple.

We've also written a number of articles/tutorials for our field. A few have been used by quite major sites and have certainly helped the link popularity and have provided a trickle of traffic.

I've Posted articles on the Ecademy website and not only are they spidered very quickly by Google, but, by adding in your keywords/terms, you do get the benefit of links and higher page rankings.

I agree article writing can be very efficient in increasing your popularity on search engines, however acquiring paid links is even more effective provided you can afford it.

For instance for one of my sites, I paid to get listed in the Yahoo directory and noticed massive increase in my search engine rankings is less than two weeks.

So I don't agree with the comment that you should only write articles. Try different things as they all have their benefits.

Writing articles is something I have also found useful, and am being encouraged to do more of by my coach - who knows about internet stuff!

But it is just moving on from the same principle used a couple of years back, only then people submitted them to magazines. Its like PR, free advertising.

I certainly had the most obvious response after submitting to Ecademy. It is immediate rather than taking maybe months with other sites, quite a few new people signed up to my Ezine as a result as well as contacting me directly.

The hard bit is going through the routine of regularly submitting your articles to lots of sites ;-)

Hi Julia

Which sites do you submit to?? I am writing an article at the mo and would like to get it on sites across the Net - well UK really as the content is UK specific.

I am currently writing an article to do with practical ways to save money... entitled '101 ways to save money' - I called it this because I thought I could get up to the magic 101 figure... thus far I have 42 recommenrdations - doh! I need to get some inspiration for the other 59 recommendations :?

Cheers

I actually use a product called Ezine Announcer which submits your ezine and articles to many sites. They are preloaded on the software.

If you want more info let me know and I'll dig out the details.

Otherwise a quick google search will give you a list, though how to limit it to the UK I am not so sure.

If you want some collaboration with the article I might be up for a brainstorming session!

It is a good strategy to write articles. But I think it is a time consuming process to write an article and distribute it. I personally write Internet marketing articles, but only feature them on my site. This way it is unique content that is featured and not a link to oher websites.

Surely having taken the time to write the article you want to get the best return from it?

By keeping it on your own site only how can you do that?

I'm afraid I am a big Rich Dad Poor Dad fan, and leverage - of everything - is the way to go ;-)

Well it is not just an article... It's a whole series of them. I am authoring a resource section for webmasters and website owners with quality information. Since this is my target market, it provides good results in terms of new web hosting customer registrations.

When thinking about SEO, an important aspect of it is CONTENT! Content is king for the search engines. Not duplicated content though... Original, unique content is what they are after.

Think about the latest competition of who has the bigger index between google, yahoo and msn (and the yahoo owned sites such as overture). Also income from advertising is a good revenue as well. I can say that 80% of all our company's expenses are covered by adsense, with this income constantly increasing as the traffic increases.

Having your article(s) syndicated on a number of websites, makes them duplicated content. Of course using this technique can dramatically increase your link popularity, but not sure if it can increase the number of targetted visitors coming from search engines.

I think I tend to agree with you ARTzWeb.net - unique content has to be the best way forward, if an article gets well positioned for your keywords then you want to keep it. Syndicating the article to other sites will dilute your search engine listings against all the other sites featuring your article. So you may lose traffic in that way and your competitor may get the sales that should be yours.

I've used www.prweb.com and www.pressbox.co.uk - both very useful for distributing your article.

These sites are regularly viewed by journalists so it has the potential to broaden your audience to more than just web traffic.

I've also had an article published by www.smallbusinesssuccess.biz and had a very good response - thanks Rob!

Dean,

Thanks for the feedback about your article/press release. That's good to know!

I am always on the look out for articles and news from UK-based businesses so if anyone has an article or new product to launch get in touch.
