can anyone give advice on photographs please, how many are needed. How important are they, we have one of the outside of the shop and a few more showing our marinates and some of the meat is that enough and should they be still or moving/changing?

Can you have too many pictures?

It depends on the site itself. If you are selling marinades online then a picture of the shop isn't needed but lots of pictures of the meat sizzling away on the barbi are.

If you are just promoting the shop then add a picture by all means.

Photographs and images will occur naturally during content development. If you are explaining how to prepare the meat for marinating then you might want to have a series of images. If you want to display the range of marinades then individual images are needed.

Did you end up buying all the domain names?

Pictures should be used to support a story line not just fill space. So go back to the objectives you set when launching the web site (you did set some didn't you) and then fit the pictures to your answers.

As said above, you don't probably need one of the shop. As shots of meat are notoriously difficult to make alluring you might want to consider using some nice pack shots, propped up with some ingredients, (lash up below as example), and maybe a few generic BBQ shots sourced from somewhere like iStock.

Another view on the picture of the shop.
Is one of the objectives of having a web site that you want to get into local web directories with a view to increasing actual footfall in the shop? if so then pictures of the shop inside and out may well help to that end.

I have always thought that there should be synergy between a retail outlet and an on-line store. The web site can be used to drive customers through the high street door and the existence of an actual retail outlet can make people happier to buy online because they are reassured that it is a real business.

Beware designers that think life does not exist beyond that pretty portal.

In addition to product shots it's worth having images of the shop and a portrait of yourselves, it helps gives your business a personal touch. I've also noticed recently a slight shift towards black and white portraits so something else to consider. Not sure what your meat looks like but as another poster commented it may be difficult to make the meat look appertising so think about product shots with the meat in packaging or on a plate ready to eat.

Oh there is SO much you can do to that site!

get your customers to fill in commen cards, have a sample there that says along the lines of 'It made my BBQ the talk of the town, everyone wanted to know how i made the marinades taste so good' or " My guests were stunned when they tasted the tender meat with that delicate spicy sauce, It REALLY WAS fingerlicking good"

Remember you are NOT selling Meat, your are selling a lifestyle, you are selling an Experience, you are selling status as being 'KING of the BBQ'

A few serving suggestions wouldn't go amiss either, maybe an "old family recipe" thrown in adding a particular marinade of the week, get the juices flowing before they've gone to the check out, you'll be on to a winner.
