Hi, I've been lurking here for quite some time now, and I'm finally going to start a limited company, but I'm looking for some local advice...

I'm a sole trader that has been working for many years in the construction industry. I have the chance of expanding and joining forces with somebody. From reading here, the best option would be to start a limited company with us as directors.

I have heard and read conflicting advice as to what I should be doing regards to starting up (e.g buy new van/equipment and put it on your directors account?), therefore I would like to have some local, face to face advice. Initially, a free consultation would be great, outlining what they could do for me, and how much it would cost.

Any recommendations or self promotion would be great.

Thanks,

M.

If you post this in the accounts and finance section I am sure you will get a reply from an accountant in that area.

This is just the sort of questions any good accountant will be able to answer for you in a free intial consultation.

Hi Nicola HJ, Thanks for the advice. I'll repost in there now. Should I be deleting this thread so I'm not cross posting though? M.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for the offer.

Can I ask what would be the easiest way of arranging this with yourselves? Is it to ring your number and arrange for business startup support? Also, do you offer a free initial consultation outlining what you could do for me, and how much it would cost?

Thank you,

Mick.

I got some good advice from the Birmingham chamber of commerce when I went freelance, might be worth trying them.

Thank you to everybody for their replies.

I have taken advice from 3 different sources now, and will probably be using a local accountant recommended to me by MikeH. I will also be using MikeH's Simpleformations website to hopefully set up the company...

Thanks,

M.
