You must be thinking of who is paying high for what? I was just googling for online business forums and ended up registering here.. I've seen specially in Ecommerce section, people willing to start online business are paying like hell for developing an online solution.. Then paying $xxxx for the advertising.. For advertising, it definitely make some sense but for developing, a one time $5000 or $100 a month is very much ridiculous..
I've been into developing ecommerce website for almost 3 years and cosidering the number of projects i've done, if i was to be paid like that.. i wouldve been a millionaire :p

from the subcontinent PK
you cannot simply put costs on development like that
1) didn't want readers to think of me as if i am promoting myself.. 2) wanted it to keep it a discussion thread.
However the worst quote i made for the business owner wasn't more than $1500 and his demands were like, "develop me everything.. frontend, backend, catalog, forum, blog, polls, paypal, memberships, userpoints, a marketplace for independent sellers, file downloading"

development costs vary from country to country....developers in the Uk usually run businesses and have to make money - I would imagine the cost of living in PK is much less than the UK.
There is also a huge convenience having your dev company in the same country as your business

Because too many naive, gullible people in this country are taken in by
web developers, web designers, marketers, SEO's and advertising
providers, in to thinking if thet spend a couple of Łk on developing a
website, more on optimising, marketing and advertising it, that they will be
the next Richard Branson.

exactly.. to us (although i work solo) the cost makes no sense.. the last anything like this i saw was a US company paying $4000 a month to a local web developing company just to enter a news/blog post (written by the owners themselves) on the company's website. this is like looting legally..

I guess its down to the old trick of taking what they have
Im getting involved with a new venture & they already have 2 websites that were made especially for them @ 5K each.
the pages look pretty but nothing complected but there is nothing at the back end - just a page with the orders - no way of doing anything with them.
They can't even change the products etc without paying the developer to do it
