Just a thought, I seem to be doing deliveries with a half full van down to london every week from Matlock and wondered if anyone needed any deliveries making to fill up the van. Can be large items (LWB Transit) - I can be a lot cheaper than a courier company I reckon!
Let me know!!

Hello there, loved the root bench...keep me on your mailing list. Deliveries & products must be able to help each other out some time in the future.

If you wish to compare yourself to a courier it would be best to also advise people as to what insurances you have etc.

Not at all it's a good one, but it will take you time to find a network of people that you can contact to see what they have available.
One example for you we offer clients a plants only service, i.e. they can collect and drop off themselves. Only the big boys take up this option, but then they have vehicles traveling up and down the UK all the time. If I could turn round to you and say we have a booking for whatever trades fair in London or wherever could you transport 50 palm trees and what would it cost...?

As a struggling courier trying to earn an honest crust, having over a thousand pounds worth of insurance to pay for (Courier insurance, Goods in Transit, P/L), it galls me to see someone without that insurance doing cheap trips like that.
Just hope for your sake you don't come unstuck if you swerve, crash, brake too hard, or some other moron hits you and something goes 'CRACK!!' in the back.

oops, didn't mean to 'gall' anyone! although i will look in to the insurance side further - see what would need to be done should things get quiet.
wouldn't like to have to explain to rich why his 50 palm trees had died on the m1!

Mate not trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs but...
you are on a business forum, providing an essential business service
you have no sig
you have no links to what you do...
Erm a missed opportunity?

That's just how my mother-in-law drives. She's the slow Rover in the middle lane.
or some other moron hits you.
Hey, are you calling my mother-in-law a moron?
and something goes 'CRACK!!' in the back. That'll be the load of Rice Crispies. Better watch out for the Snapples and Pops!
I think I'd rather send my palm trees on SC's swerving, crashing, over-braking, accident prone, uninsured van than entrust the little darlings to the Royal Mail.

Nice answers all. My original post was made on a 'grumpy' afternoon, so may have seemed to contain a little votriol!!
Don't fret (I'm sure you won't!) SC1979, you do what you have to to earn, I understand.
You're right, Oasis, perhaps a missed opportunity. I haven't been on here for a while abd started couriering (made up word?) since. I might just right that. Thanks for the heads-up. I don't have a website, but I could put some info in my sig.
Goose - I said 'some other' moron, meaning 'other than your obviously charming mother-in-law', If that's what you want me to say.

@ Padebo
I would recommend you get a site of your own, I used to get an awful lot of work from mine before I had to stop due to ill health, and only spent approx £30 a month advertising it to bring in around £3-4k a month of business.
My site was 5-6 pages only, mainly testimonials, no prices, just what I was able to do and a few piccys of my vehicles. You are based in an ideal spot as well.
