The main sites do help get traffic without a doubt whilst also improving over all search engine postion.

i sell fashion clothing and accessories are there any tools or lists or trusted directorys to help me complete this task.

I've found that you can get a flood of traffic from them, but that's mostly what it is, just traffic with very very few conversions. Most users seem to be looking for information or to be entertained, not to buy something. It may work better for some sites than others, but this has been by experience with several different types of site.

Using mass submission tools will seem to get you penalised by Google as it appears they are cracking down on this type of SEO. If you're looking for traffic these sites can be very good but they require you putting in the work and organically building communities within each one and then submitting compelling and unique articles. Nobody is going to digg or promote random submissions. You have to work to create communities in each social bookmarking network and then use that network to spread your stories etc. It requires work.
