I am about to take on my first employee...
Could anyone give me any advise? He has been working for me for 6 months as a contractor so I know he can do the job and is very reliable! I am looking at paying him monthly and have agreed a sum but do not know what you do about a contract?(is there a standard one somewhere?) annual leave and sickness terms? We work very strange and sometimes long hrs, will I come across any working time directive problems? I would appreciate any suggestions, Thank you in advance

You can obtain Contract of Employment and Terms and Conditions of Employment through the Federation of Small Businesses. These will include Holiday Entitlement and Sickness Benefit terms. Membership to the FSB starts at £100 per annum.

Thanks both for the information, I have just joined the Federation of Small Business! I am awaiting the Welome pack so that sounds like a good option for information

You don't need to wait for the pack. Call the legal helpline and they will send to you the documentation you need.:)

You could always just use the tool on the Businesslink website, it creates it all for you after answering some questions
