Hi I'm a web developer/designer in Stoke on Trent, and feel like I'm in a little bubble of my own, because I don't know anyone in the same field of work.

If any one fits the bill and lives in stoke, I'd love to hear from you.

I primarily work in asp, asp.net and have a large toe in the php/drupal corner.

Hi MattyB,

Check out http://www.jamiedia.co.uk/ and give Jamie a call. He's a friend of mine and will be happy to have a chat with a fellow designer.

I'll expand your bubble a bit. We are also in Stoke-on-Trent (on the edge, but still in there) - nice to meet you MattyB

What's your ASP experience?

Hi,

I run the production side of a company called Internet Business Solutions Ltd, we're based on Trentham Lakes Business Park. We're probably the biggest web design company in Stoke on Trent (the others are 2-5 employees, we're 10 in size and expanding fast).

Our websites on netbizsolutions.co.uk

Give me a bell on 0845 456 7617 and it could be worth having a chat for any sub-contract work involving .net projects (we're a PHP/MySQL company).

We're also hiring, and have a great package/focus for leading developers and designers.

Thanks,

David

Hiya

I've worked for The Sentinel, then Northcliffe Newspapers for about 7 years, then helped to form a new company in 2005 called Inter Advertising.

All of that time I had been working mostly with ASP and SQL2000, then in the past few years, I've upgraded to ASP.NET (vb) and a couple of years ago I met and fell in love with Drupal, the open source CMS.

I'm also a fairly all right designer as well.

If your from stoke, read The Sentinel and are a Stoke Fan, you might have seen one of my latest creations.

How about yourselves, whats your line of work?

Hi MattyB

Nice site the whydelilah. All built in Drupal I presume?

We started out mainly as SEO. Over the last 18 months we've become
developers because that's what our clients required - a website and SEO solution.

In the PHP/MySQL field we use MODx CMS, and for completely custom sites (with any functionality in there) we have a custom built ASP solution.

Are you working with Inter or freelancing?

Hiya F1SEO, all drupal, with some custom Modules and templates.

I work full time/extra time with Inter Advertising, and when I'm not doing that I finally relax or work on my community site for Tunstall - Bankeyfields (http://www.bankeyfields.co.uk) (Drupal again)

I'll take a look at MODx, looks nifty.

Do you use any other php development libraries such as phpcake? I need to start taking a look into them.

Hi MattyB

We've not really used phpcake very much although I've heard many good things about it. I've also heard good things about CodeIgniter framework as well.

Hi MattyB,

Just had a look at drupal and it looks pretty good.

Did you go on a course to learn about it or is it easy to pick up and use? I have written pages in html before and used dreamweaver, but thats all playground stuff compared to what you guys do so i'm wondering if drupal will go straight over my head?

Hi GK

I'd been working with ASP/SQL for years and at first I too dismissed drupal, when I first tried it out. But then after a bit of reading on the drupal site, and having ago myself it just becomes second nature.

To try it for your self on a PC download XAMPP for Windows (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html), and then download a version of drupal from the drupal.org site.

I still use version 5 as all of the modules that I make use of haven't been converted to version 6 yet.

Would anyone be interested in a drupal course. obviously I'd have to charge, but if it proves a popular idea it would be something I'd do.

Thanks MattyB, will give it a go.

I personally wouldn't want to pay for a course as I would only be doing it as a a personal interest, but maybe some of the webbies on here would be.

Hi MattyB,
We are yet another web company in Stoke-on-Trent. I'm always on the lookout for new fresh PHP developers. If you would like to talk some more I'm on 0800 327 7935

Hi eBiz

I'm not looking at the minute - although you never know in the current climes - but thanks for the offer.

What I wanted from this was to meet up at some point and get to know each other. Even though we are all competing with each other - it's always good to know that there are other people close by that you can network - outsource to and so on.

Saying that - I've just become a Dad for the third time so don't have any time just now.

Cheers

Matt
