Hi everyone,

I'm the chairman for the local branch of the Federation of Small Businesses and we're currently looking to add people to our committee. We're specifically looking for three people including one treasurer.

In order to qualify you need to be an FSB member and your business should be located in Rochford, Southend-On-Sea or Castle Point districts.

The existing committee members are a dedicated lot and we're all very busy running our own business, therefore the committee work involved really isn't onerous. We meet once a quarter and our general objectives are:

- Assist in the retention and recruitment of FSB members
- Lobbying to MPs and councillors
- Ensuring that the FSB is featured in the press including newspaper, magazines and radio

We take care of the above objectives by arranging social events, engaging with local press contacts with whom we are familiar with including representatives from Southend FM and BBC Essex. We also have direct contact with relevant government and council officials and we ensure that those people are made aware of the problems faced by small business owners.

Our regional AGM is on the 11th November so we don't have long to find people. If you think this suits you, or know somebody who may be interested please ask them to get in touch on simon.swords@fsb.org.uk or alternatively feel free to call me at my office on 0845 867 2845.
