HI
I am looking into getting some sort of epos system which can linked to online business and retail outlet.
Can someone help to answer a few questions please.
Has anyone got a system they use?
Do you pay monthly or just a one off fee?
How easy are they to implement?
Which system, by whom would you recommend.

We looked at intelligent retail at a show on Sunday, they charge approx £28 per month to supply all the hardware and can link to your website, and £38 a month where they develop the website for you (hopefully thats close with the numbers, I didn't write it down)..I thought it was a great deal, but my husband didn't think so. We are in the same position of looking through this EPOS minefield.

I've not used these people before but I've looked at them for a friend and the solution seems interesting.

After trying out the backend demo, and having a 2 hour online walkthrough of the till side of things, I've just purchased the backend part of this system from http://www.nebulasystems.net/ it should arrive in a day or so. The system is pretty good in terms of what it does and price IMO, and is very well catered for the clothing industry. I've spent a lot of time looking at other systems that don't even come close for useability with regards to attributes such as size, colour, design etc.

Thank you for your comments and advice.
I have been quoted £55 per week, yes per week for something that had all the bells and whistles.
Because of the prices quoted I decided to forget about linking stock control to website and the B&M. We would just update the website manaually. I found a system that could do that for only £475 + VAT.
But if intelligent retail can do both for only £28 per month it will be well worth looking into for me.
Thank you so much.

Might be worth the cost to just get in there and get going FAST and see what you think and wether it is all worth it.
How many hours are you going to spend researching it all and then saving (maybe) something.
Was there a minimum contract period.
I think it is a pretty mature product. Only saw a demo and did some reading etc but seemed good to me.
The advantage of a monthly sum is that it gives them a revenue stream and they have to keep customers happy also. So here today and here at least until tomorrow.

I was sold on it, though the only thing I was concerned about was the four year commitment - you are essentially buying the system on HP.

If you search Google for something like 'ecommerce epos link' you will find a number of suppliers that offer what you are looking for. It's then a case of narrowing it down to one you feel you can trust, that offers the functionality you want, at the right price.
Do you pay monthly or just a one off fee? Both options are available, but if you want to pay monthly there will be a minimum contract period. That's because the cost of the hardware is relatively high, and if it's returned, the supplier cannot resell it as new. Each supplier will set a price and a minimum contract period that's economically viable for them.

Maria I have just heard back from them and they said the weekly price is around £45 (£5,000 over a 3 year lease).
No sure my business could commit to that kind of financial commitment at the moment.
Think I will have to look a just getting a system that will allow me to use a bar code system with a till and then adjust the website manually.
Most of what I sell through my website is custom made so not stock controlled, so shouldn't take me long to adjust stock levels daily.
Thank you very much for your help and advice.

Hi Helen
I had it written down that its £28 per week without website and £38 with over four years....that was the trouble I had, the long commitment for a new business. I also posted the EPOSS query on the retail forum website and have received so additional advice there, maybe worth a look?

I never got that far but that does change things a lot.
Do they not offer any sort of break deal?
Remember some of the cost is also towards the EPOS system which you might be choosing to buy anyway which along withg servicing will add up to a bit.
I rang a few people to ask how they found it and they were happy with the system but not selling much - which is another ecommerce story but bear that in mind.
Maybe all you need is a good web site to drive people to the shop and for now forget the ecommerce bit.
There are ways of doing ecommerce the old fashioned way which might be better for you even especially in the shorter run.
Pictures and descriptions - email or ring to buy - chance to sell - chance to edge them towards visting the shop etc etc.
