Greetings NEF,

I run a hosting business and user Protx for 2 types of transactions, online sales where customer is purchasing from site. This uses VSP Direct so that the customer completed card details at my site and then the payment is taken there and then.

Another transaction is recurrsive for monthly hosting and this uses continuous authority billing.

I use Streamline (Natwest) as my merchant account provider and couldnt be happier.

If you have any more specific questions then feel free to contact me.

I use HSBC which give good deals if you are in the BSSA.
HSBC give you a merchant account number and process the payments on their https server. It works out a lot cheaper then getting a merchant account from a bank and then paying for an additional cart integrator. The integration is not straight forward though.

I'm currently with LLoydsTSB so cardnet and protx would be the easiest choice for me starting out, although I'm really tempted by paypal pro also.??

we use protx & streamline

get a merchant account with streamline or similar
FSB & other trade organizations can get the joining/setup fee waived

Cheers

same as gibby here, protx/Streamline. Wouldn't touch Paypal Pro ever again, but that's my experience (check other threads about Paypal pro).

I also offer Paypal for those who have an account as it makes buying easy without entering card details. Saying that, most people pay by credit/debit card using protx (same principle as ignitesystems, seamless on our website)

How does streamline compare to cardnet with regard to features and pricing?

Ditto protx/Streamline. Very good combo and good prices from Streamline with a FSB membership.
