Does your web site load slower if you go through Google search?? I'm sure that I am not imagining it, if I type in our web address it loads really quickly, but if I click on the link in Google it takes twice as long :|
Anyone else notice this with their own web sites or is it just my computer having a funny moment :(

Sorry Dave, that's not my experience. Can't think of any reason why this should happen, as there is no difference between entering the url manually or clicking on a link that has the same url.

This is certainly possible. Google likes to know when you click a link on their search results page, so they encode their link to point back to Google. When you click the link, Google will automatically forward your browser to the appropriate website.

This is not in any way true. Search listings on Google are direct links, and are not routed through a forwarder. Adwords links are, but that's a different thing altogether.

In complete agreement with this.

Google is doing things behind the scenes, even if it outwardly appears that the results links are direct links. Javascript events are being called which in turn fire off an image file request at the google server for click monitoring purposes. I only found out about this recently, have a look at this google click monitoring (http://www.seo4uk.com/home/seo_articles/google_click_monitoring) article for more information.
Other slow downs might be caused by web stats software on your website, e.g. google analytics, doing extra processing to store information about the website referrer (i.e. the google website), perhaps even doing an domain name ip country lookup for the referrer website, and since the referrer is a search engine, processing and storing extra information about the search term.
Who knows, if you have google analytics on the website, perhaps google is now doing extra processing, lookups and monitoring, to tie in the google analytics monitoring information with the google search engine click monitoring information?

Oops, changed my post cos awebapart did a much, much better job of explaining it. I had noticed the speed differences, but had never investigated.

Your are right Dave...I experience that....I came to know an executive on phone whe he was helping to reset password...that u will have to type in address bar but do not click link in search engine......it says its direct but actually its not....
