Hi,
I know there have been previous discussions on whether facebook ads are effective. However, now a couple of months have passed and wonder if anyone has more experience and less ambiguity?
Are paying for ads on Facebook effective and how much on av. do you pay for CPC on there and set as a daily budget etc?
I do most of my advertising with Google CPC so I dont really want to set aside a big budget if I did do this.. However, seeing as Facebook is in $ it would be nice to take advantage of the old exchange rate! :)

Having looked at your website I would think the best way for you to market your site/products would be through a relative forum... You are quite a niche market... something else you should consider are festivals that accur throughout the country around the festivals...
Facebook wise, you would need to research how many people on Facebook would actually be interested.. do you know of any ways you could do this? Maybe find communities?
Aromatherapy was really big a couple of years ago but it seems to have disappeared, maybe you could try and revive it somhow?

I advertised on Facebook - specifically for my range of Meditation CDs. Got a handful of clicks, but not as many as I would have liked. I found that the problem with Facebook ads is it's difficult to target the people you and I would want to the ads to be shown to. There are plenty of them on there, but the keywords you might choose are not in the list, and you can only choose keywords from the list.

Hi,
I use Facebook to advertise. Only a small amount of click throughs which isn't great. However there's been 30 000 impressions with my brand and company name on for which I'm not paying for so I may as well leave it running. Even though people don't click through they may still catch the name and the brand which may stick with them until they see another piece of your advertising in a different medium. The fact that they've seen the name and advertising elsewhere may better encourage them to find out more.

Thanks for the replies - It has made me hold off advertising this way and carry on with just Google for the moment. Perhaps when the market picks up again and I have a few extra pennies I shall reconsider!

I think facebook is very effective, but dont see why you need to pay for adverts.
It might be a better option to build a facebook application that offers something simple and useful for free, ideally a slice of your product. The application will promote your brand, naturally click through to your website.

The importtant of e-marketing is target customers and target market. The faceback is website many people use. I don't think it is good for your sepcial market except your production sold to every people.

except that your ads are not shown to "everyone" unless you choose that option. You can tailor who sees your ad based on their profile.
The problem for me and spiritadventures and other businesses like ours is that the keywords we need are not available, making it difficult to target the people we appeal to.

Yes - I believe that only "new age" came up for me, which is wierd cos there are pagan/wiccan groups on there etc. You think they would come up as well!
I am working on a business page for face book on there at mo to see if that helps..

you must analyse, You can go to wordtrack or or SEO wesbite to help you know your production keywords. Then go to search engineer to look for the message board

I think we know our keywords - the OP was asking about Facebook. You have to choose from their list of words, so if the right ones aren't there, you can't use them.

I would say that facebook would get your business noticed by a lot of people as it is a big community and the exchange rate doesn't hurt much either. However, from my personal use on facebook, I would say that usually stray away from the adverts because they are all over the place these days and it is a bit overwhelming with all of them in your face. Im not sure that everyone feels that way though! It would still get your name out there though!

I agree with that. Marketing is all about reaching to the target market and target audience. I dont think Facebook ads do that well.

For some businesses, that would be a plus, I'm sure - those that sell mainstream products. But if you are in a niche market, spending money (however little) on untargeted ads is unlikely to bring much in the way of reward.

I am currently advertising a music facebook group to collect people and post events to them when they are on board. Targeting my market through their keywords was relatively easy because I simply added 'bar' 'going to bars' 'jazz' 'funk' & 'electronica' however I can understand how many businesses wouldnt be able to find such suitable matches from the (small) keyword list.
The CTR is also ridiculously low (like 1 click in 40k impressions) but like one poster said - its free exposure so can't complain.

We did some ads but they converted very badly. We also built an app which works well and which drove loads of traffic but not a lot of conversions...however it was good for brand awareness. Broadly, we find that FB needs to improve the targeting on there for it to be properly useful to businesses that want ROI positive advertising (rather than companies which have massive budgets that they want to spend anyway they can)....

PS the app's called flowers and fun and can be found here if you want to send some free virtual flowers with it! Once you've sent your flowers, we then give you a 10% promo code to use too. But that also has hardly been used (the traffic has come from people clicking through from the main app page).
