Confused and learning

Hi all

I am currently taking my Payroll exam and have a few questions I would like clarification on please.

1) I have an employee currently on maternity leave receiving smp and an annual bonus is due. -- Do I calculate the bonus for this employee pro-rata from the beginning of the year up to the date she went off on maternity leave?

2) For my exam I have chosen pay year 2007/08. So the first payday will be 06.04.07. (Weekly staff paid each Friday and monthly staff paid last Friday of month) One of the questions is to alter a tax code at the beginning of week 6. Would I alter it for processing day 11.05.07? (sounds like a very blonde question but I think the more I think about it the more confused I get) Also have to change a tax code for a monthly paid employee at the beginning of week 4. Week 4 happens to fall on the pay day (last Friday of month - 27.04.07) So if I amend the tax code on week 4 which is the first pay day of the financial year for the monthly paid staff - this in effect will alter the tax code from 06.04.07 (week 1). Should I alter the tax code when I process month 2/week8? But then that will be the end of week 4? Ooohhhhh..... so confused.

3) How do I calculate a bonus paid to hourly paid employees. The criteria is 4.5% of annual salary. The hours worked are all different too?

Hope you can guide me....

Thanks
Nikki

Hey we didn't have access to t'internet in an exam. Is this progress

Well OK before someone says it - there wasn't an internet when I did my exams. In fact PCs were the size of buses then - those were the days :p
