Hi everyone - I was wondering if anyone can offer me advice and the legalities on my current online business in which I sell non- prescription dietary supplements (mainly weight loss pills, male and female enhancement products, skin care etc.)

I initially started it up as a hobby selling on eBay but then decided to set up my own online shop. The business has started to grow considerably and I feel I need to seek advice to ensure everything is legit.

I import the products from the States where they are all freely available over there as over-the-counter supplements. I have always presumed that due to the products being legal over there and that UK customers can buy online from the States for postage to here that it’s fine for me to directly sell the same from direct from the UK.

Can anyone offer me any advice or direction where to get advice from on the dietary supplement industry in the UK and whether I need to obtain licences etc. to be able to sell these products? Like I said they are all well-known branded products from large manufacturers over in the U.S.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

New law (Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008) came into effect last month which puts you at more risk than previously if 'the drugs don't work'. To be topical, gastric bands seem safe though!

It may be better therefore to site outside of EU unless you don't mind a statement on your website saying "there is no evidence whatsoever that you will lose weight/have a great sex life/have skin like silk but a lot of evidence I will make money out of you".
