i went to a employment tribunal and was awarded a payment against my ex employer.i do not know what to do next.my ex employer has 'done a runner' and is not traceable at the moment.please can anyone give me any advice.

You need to go back to the tribunal court office and let them know. They will advise what to do.

When you say your employer has disappeared do you mean they are not traceable in any way? If you do know their address then you register the order with the county court and can pursue it in the way you would any debt order ie bailiff etc. However if employer has been made insolvent then you need to follow the process here for claiming the award.

The rules of getting any money must always start from the premise of can he afford to pay. You make your former employer sound like a real cowboy. If you were employed by him and he was a sole trader or in partnership you can go for him and/or his partners personally. If he was a limited company and your award was substantial he might just decide to run down his firms assets and make you take him into liquidation. I suspect you are going to have whistle for your money.
