I have been tracking 2 sellers on ebay for a while and now they seem to have vanished as if they never exsisted.

I can search on the seller name or id number but both have gone missing in the last month - as opposed to not actively trading at the moment and they both quite active before.

I am not very experienced on ebay so I was wondering if someone could tell me what may have gone on.

God I hope there not the ones I spent £100 with about 12 days ago. I never heard a thing from them since handing over the money!!! :(

As said, they could have been suspended. But i also believe that if they chose to close their accounts Ebay would also remove any history of them...it makes sence as Ebay wouldnt want thousands of unused accounts taking up server space!

I did read somewhere that they have some new rules coming (come?) in about geographical addresses etc. Maybe it is related to that.

But I would assume that no-one would vanish so quickly from the system.

They could have changed their user id.
Perhaps they are no longer registered users, or the items have been cancelled, and the user id changed...

Whenever something fishy happens on ebay, ebay does its utmost to hide all evidence of it, they dont want people realising just how many people get ripped of on ebay, and how much fraud goes on. Hide it under the carpet seems to be their way of working.

What happens to you? You bought from them?

Hi Page

You can register with e-bay under any name you wish its only if you provide payment contact details and sellers details that you are singled out,
This route can be traced through e-bay through to paypal.

e-bay is full of cowboys - I was ripped off before Christmas to the tune of £425 (probably my own fault for being so trusting of e-bay and Paypal to look after the consumer).

Thanks to my bank it's all sorted, but no thanks to them. I certainly won't use them again.

They were a couple of competitors doing quite nicely on ebay which is an area I have not gone into but which I was watching.

I cannot believe they have just vanished within a month.

Both had shop space.

I will go back and look into it further.

Based on what I've learned about eBay of late here's a couple of nuggets to bear in mind and/or clarify

Name changes on accounts are always linked so the old names will still link them to the new one (or should!)

There's been a plethora of changes re: Ebay rules of late, especially those governing business account sellers.. Primary among them is the need to include all VAT in the price (not add later) and to have a full business address. It's possible they fell foul of these and got terminated.

Beyond that you could just call up ebay customer services/support and ask if they can help with your query. You never know..

Maybe they left rather than register as a business. Perhaps they will be back as legit if they were not listed as a business

Including VAT in the sale price is a good start, but how about providing a VAT invoice. The number of times I've been promised one and it never turns up.

eBay have gone absolutely crazy with their rules. I sell as a business on there and have today been suspended for 30 days for "feedback manipulation" - I have no idea what they think I have done as it just says that that is the reason and does not give details of how I have supposedly done this; I have to wait until Monday to speak with the PowerSeller phoneline.

Their new rules on not selling digital items, their suspension of accounts if you sell rarely and have some nutcase leave you a negative feedback which will count as more than 5% of your past 90 days feedback history and their removing of all feedback from people's accounts if they had been selling digital items for less than £1 ***BEFORE*** the no-digital-items rule came about (I had 551 feedback taken off my account for this this week) just hints at them believing they are so big that they can rule people's businesses. It astonishes me that scammers, obvious fraudsters, are allowed to trade yet I get suspended for something that did not even take place - I have been a member since 2001 and a seller since 2003 and have never once sold anything for feedback, it's totally absurd.

What eBay are doing right now I am sure can only be detrimental to their own company as well as the companies of the sellers who got them where they are today, they believe they are untouchable and at the push of a button can close your entire eBay based company down overnight. How long it will be before people start to speak with their cyber feet and leave them for good I do not know - but if this practice continues I'm sure that someone will be able to set up a credible rival site that will, with the right marketing, take away eBay's monopoly.

Talking to our shop owners over the last few weeks and there are a surprising number who are closing their eBay shops completely.

One was telling us that eBay have changed the way listings are returned when you do a search and this has had a big impact on sales, others are saying the fees are rediculous and a couple of them have had problems with customers threatening to leave negative feedback unless they get a refund without having to return the goods.

I still think eBay is useful for offloading slow moving stock or to increase awareness of your real shop, but they appear to have shot themselves in the foot with the latest changes.

Having said that, they increased their corporate earnings on the back of the changes so I don't see any back-peddling from eBay any time soon.

I have literally just started an ebay shop and now find myself getting ready to leave again as they've managed to change a ridiculous number of rules that seem 50:50 in terms of positive vs' insane changes.

The latest was to change the goalposts on their new "dashboard" system that was allegedly to encourage positive sellers... It started off with 100 items or £750 over a 3 month period and then without any notice it's now 300 items or £2,250 over the same 3 month period.

Couple that with:
- must offer paypal
- stopping sellers from leaving negative feedback for buyers
- stopping buyers from leaving negative feedback for powersellers (for 7 days)
... and so on...

... it just seems they really consider themselves above common sense and folks will accept pretty much anything... I give it about a year before Richard Branson decides to create Virgin Auctions or something and blows them out of the water... the sooner the better frankly.. they need a wake up call..

Closed my ebay shop last year after they adjusting the fee. It's now too costly to sell on eBay. Royal mail also increased their postage last year...f***!!
