I hope this sorts it self out for you, but it highlights one of the issues around using a third party to host your store/software!

Hi all,
Although it's not nice, it's a relief to hear that other people have been having the same problem that their store2go site being down as I thought that it was just my site. As far as I am aware it's not been working since about 3pm but it could have been down alot longer for all I know. Even their site is down. It is very worrying as I have been with store2go for about 8 months now and never encountered this problem before.
Fingers crossed it comes back soon:(

dont quote me on this, but i think store2go is using a server in the usa. with store2go going down too, it's likely they are using the same server as we are. So looks like a server problem in the usa
theodorelogan
23rd April 2008, 23:06
I think the server is in London, and I thought they had a backup for situations like this. Not sure though.
spiritcharms
23rd April 2008, 23:14
I am really not sure where the server is, I just remember following a link once on store2go ( server powered by link) and it seemed to take me to a place in texas but I maybe mistaken.I do believe that they automatically back up your website from time to time. My site did go down once for about an hour but store2go was still running, but this is slightly different to that time, as everything is dead. If the server is down for maintinance you would have thought that store2go would have had the courtesy to let you know before hand. I don't really think there is too much cause for alarm at the moment, as store2go has alot of money to loose and with them being down also, I am sure they are frantically trying to sort it out as we speak.(she says optimistically :)

Ive just had this horrible thought... Store2go is still down too, so if when you email them, if their email address is reliant on thier website, like ours is from our site. then they arent going to get it until after the fact. (when the sites are up and running again).

I'd be very suprised if they had disappeared. it's probably a case of them avoiding the onslaught of "what the hell is going on" phone calls and emails, till they can give an answer. It's ominous that they wont answer the phone if they cant give an answer. that might mean this is a long way from being fixed yet.....

Surely that could just as easily be a bot not a person though, or else it could just be someone looking at a cached page?
Personally if this was me I would be changing my host, especially if you are being hosted outside of the UK and have no means to contact anyone for any support. There is no excuse for sites to be down for that length of time - think of the cost of lost sales as a result
I can certainly recommend my own provider www.internetretailer.biz (http://www.internetretailer.biz) I've never experienced any problems with mine and all support is in the UK
The fact that the actual main page for store2go has also gone completely would worry me.

If there is a problem then if they have a forum it should state what the problem is as there has got to be someone on the end of the phone to put customers minds at ease, and forget the £1 per minute that is just another way for them to make money.

sorry to say, but if store2go as gone down for good (but i dont believe that at the moment) then yes, all the stuff on the database will be lost and we will all have to start from scratch.....
Take a deep breath though, servers are funny old things, when they go down, they can go down with a bang, so i think its a bit soon to be talking of starting from scratch

Did someone on store2go staff say this to you? If so you are right, not very helpful... I think they have to be careful how they handle this, there are plenty of helpful people in this topic posting plenty of alternative web builders and hosts, not to mention this topic is getting picked up by google. If they want any reputation keeping that they may have had, i think they had better get thier finger out a bit with this.

The thought of starting from scratch is a nightmare. If ever my site comes on line again, im going to try to back it up myself, although i have to say i havent a clue how to do it. I tried FTPing it when i first got it, but there just isnt that faciliaty on store2go. In fact i was told by them that i didnt have to, as it was backed up for me.... Ive never liked not having a copy on my pc though, and i can see why not now. even free wedsites (like the ones on trypod) as FTP access.....

Most hosted on-line shops don't provide access to the site databases or FTP access, I think store2go is a custom built shopping cart so migrating to another shopping cart is going to be very difficult.

Dear Tony,
First of all, thank you for reporting the situation to us.

I do not see the problem at my end, and our server status show no
reported issues. However, I have contacted our server provided and make

Just arrived back, as you will probably guess, I didn't get anywhere. I arrived at the semi house, car on driveway, went to front door told me to go to back door, went to back door and a guys answered, I asked for Adrian and the guy said he doesn't live there, so I asked if he knew where Adrian lived currently and he just plainly said no.
I didn't know whether to believe him or not, and the other address on Myrtle Drive didn't go very far, I couldn't even find the road!

I've just gotten an order from France off my site but when I had a go off my own site it would not let me - very odd but reassuring.
My last email has not failed as yet like my last one did. I still like the idea of knocking Stor2go on the head even if it gets back on.

I think I will be doing that too, I have used them for a while now and recommended a few people too them too but there is a distinct lack of customer care here and I am not happy putting up with it.

Just got this reply from Adrian
Hi,
I have been working with our server provider over the last 2 hours or so
to determine the root cause of the problem. Apparently there is issue
with our IP address, which some users from certain IP address (location)
can access our website (and your store), but not for the other. We have
been resolving the problem, however activating a new IP address takes
time, and there may be another 10-15 hours of access problem for some.
I will continue monitoring the IP address issue and keep you updated.
P/S, we do not receive emails for a number of hours this morning and
early afternoon. I apology if your email has not been responded any sooner.
Regards,
Adrian
seems we are getting somewhere now:)

I think you just put something like store builder or site hosts. build your own website, things like that. for me though i dont think its worth it, now its being sorted. Fair due's to the man, he is trying his best to sort it and i dont think he had any idea of the extent of it. It's been a rough worrying 24 hours, but hopefully it will sort itself now (please god) ;-)

Yes I quite agree, I think if he did know the extent of the problem he would have acted sooner. Hopefully he will get it sorted out for us all. There is no harm in lookingwhat others have to offer though, and now I really want telephone communication where I know people will answer.

Something has to be done today!
I dread to think how much money we have all lost.
Our reputation has been damaged and all the customers I had waiting for orders must be really annoyed!
