View Full Version : Reciprocal links and SEO

Hi,
In requesting links to our site we're naturally getting requests back for reciprocal links. In some instances these can actually help build our credibility (there are some good names amongst them), for others not so much.

My fear in all of this is whether reciprocal links affect SEO ? We wouldn't be featuring anything that wasn't relevant to our site, but is there a maximum number of outbound links allowed before you get into the danger zone?

Thanks for your advice,

Silky

Yes if you have the correct links they will help your rankings.

The first thing you need is a link building strategy (http://seo.redevolution.com/linking/). You should also consider links from your users perspective. Does the link add value to your website by enhancing the user experience? Does the link on the site linking to you add value to their site and show your site in a good light? Are your inbound links context sensitive?

You can bet your bottom dollar G is working very hard on the linking aspect of their algo. Given the difficult nature of securing links my view is your time would be best spent securing genuine and valuable ones.

You should also consider link baiting (http://seo.redevolution.com/fishing-is-all-about-the-bait-you-choose/). Create something useful (preferably FREE and USEFUL) and the effect can be impressive from a linking point of view. This isn't an easy nut to crack but it's a great tool if you can.

Hope this helps.

Hi d,
thanks for this. I've a few ideas for "link baiting", just so I know I'm on the right track does anyone have any examples of any particularly successful baits they've employed, or can see in evidence?

As for the other links, I am determined to keep the content pure to us wherever possible, for our own credibility as well as page rankings.

No, that could actually effect you badly if they don't link back to you.Read this article how Google Pagerank works;
