Hi - I am in the process of integrating a payment solution with my website and have just stopped to think that instead of adding a solution like that from HSBC to instead use Paypal WP Pro. It offers everything that HSBC does and perhaps is even more competitive on rates.

Is there any reason not to use Paypal WP Pro instead of HSBC XML API solution?

This may not be of any help, but PayPal scares the hell out of me. There have been numerous horror stories about them freezing accounts and taking the money. They recently shut me out of my own account for having £600 paid in in less than 2 months, understandable as they have to comply to EU Laws and things... but never the less...

I personally would stick with whatever my bank was offering just to be safe.

...shut you down over £600. Are you a limited company?

Were you using WP Pro solution?

I will talk to them tomorrow as on their website they have given iscount rates for all of there break almost upto £20K a month.

What about the rest of you guys, what do you think?

PayPal Pro is literally designed for those who cannot get merchant status of their own - for whatever reason.

You'll pay higher rates with very little protection.

If you can you are always better trying to get a proper merchant account of your own.

They didn't shut me down, they just wouldn't let me into my account for about 5 days. It was to check I wasn't being fraudulent... I am not a LTD Company. Although I'm seriously considering it.

If you are a member of the FSB, you can use protx and get FSB's preferential rates with Streamline. Bear in mind Paypal takes a %age whether it's a debit or credit card, whereas a UK based internet merchant provider doesn't. That's one of the savings, as well as lower rates than Paypal (Streamline Internet merchant around 1.65% for credit cards and less than 30p for debit card). Worth thinking about it.
