View Full Version : SEO books
Hi, can anyone reccommend any useful, easy to read website marketing books? I'm trying to improve my website;kalsreturnjewellery.co.uk mainly because I have a one year old and want to be home based rather than travelling around the country exhibiting at shows.
All the best,
Kal

Kal, as i've mentioned in your introduction post seomoz would provide a good starting point. There was an ebook from seobook.com however they have recently been removed due to a new paid service they now offer.
Ultimately a website isn't just about seo - by improving your site visability in the search engines doesn't mean the traffic you get will result in a purchase! I think your website design should also be addressed so as to give you every possible chance of turning every visitor into a potential sale.

I'd recommend Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think.
Short, to the point, excellent case studies and designed for SEO novices like myself.
It's the best book i've found on the subject - you can buy it on amazon for £15.

Perhaps this (http://seo.redevolution.com/the-starter-for-ten-post/) might help to get you going in the right direction. There's a lot more plain English SEO advice there too ;)

I found "Get into Bed with Google" to be £5 well spent. :)
You'll find it on Amazon, sorry I can't post a link because I'm a newbie.
for all your replies, it's so helpful. I'm just trying to devour anything and everything that might help with my site!
Are there any main points re website design that I should know or be aware of? My site is powered by easywebstore and I have always found them to be extremely helpful and I don't feel that at the moment I would want to change from them.
Bets wishes,
Kal
Having recently bought and fallen asleep (many times) to SEO for Dummies, I can safely say that RedEvo's blog and the plentiful tips you'll get here from other experts are much more useful.

I think the main thing you really need to look at and address to improve your income from your website is (as said by sabian) your website design it is no use having top rank in google and spend thousands on advertising if your site is not going to convert.
If you look at competitors websites within your industry the ones that are doing well are very eye catching.
There are alot of little things that could seriously help you improve the general feel of your website.
If you want some free advice let me know I will give you a few ideas you could try.

SEOMoz is a very good resource. The best way of learning about SEO is through reading blogs and forums, but don't forget SEO is just one aspect of Internet marketing.

Personally I wouldn't look at buying any book on SEO.
The information you need is already out there in forums.
By the time a book has got through the checking, printing, distribution and finally on sale it will probably be slightly out of date since SEO techniques change so quickly.

White Hat SEO will always be the same. Content is king. Relivent text links with keywords in the link text. Don't visit bad neigbourhoods. Most importantly of all, never try and cheat to Search Engines.
