Mydomain.com
Hi I have launched a new site mydomain.com and when you type in mydomain in the SE you find my site at #1. However when you type in 'my domain' you do not find my site.
How can you rank high for you two word site mydomain and when yousplit the words using a space 'my domain'?
I have seen some sites that rank equally for the joint domain name and split name when typed into an SE - the funny thing is that there is no refering to the split name on their site but they still rank equally whether you use the joint or split name.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi
You will find this is to do with the way searches work. When you type in MyDomain, it finds all websites that contain exactly that MyDomain which won't be that many.
However when you search for My Domain it is searching for the words My Domain in web pages. The chances of someone using the words My and Domain on the same pages is much greater. Therefore lots more results will be found.
Also Domain is a very competitive keyword, so there will be alot of sites that are very SEO'd, which means they appear much before yours.
If for example you search for "My Domain" (including the quotes) it will bring all the pages which have that phrase as it is. Which you are number one again.
If you want to get high rankings for my domain, you will have to do a considerable amount of work on SEO.
I hope this helps.
Many Thanks
Leo

erm I don't know what the problem here is as you come up top of the search regardless of how you type it. You've even got the sponsored links there too, perhaps Google was just a little slow indexing your pages or something...

Guys its pretty obvious that his domain isnt ACTUALLY mydomain.com!!
He was just explaining the difference between, for example, the search results for wineshop and wine shop.

mydomain.com is the Foobar of domain names, it's used as an example when a poster doesn't want to divulge their real domain.

Fair enough, but it wasn't exactly that clear from the first post, secondly shouldn't this be in the SEO forum? As far as I know with spaces theres not a whole lot of different but it comes down to how your site has been optimised at the end of the day and what keywords you have where.
